HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Charles Craig Mannschreck of St. Joseph, Missouri, who passed away on August 21, 2019; and

WHEREAS, Craig Mannschreck was born in St. Joseph, Missouri to Charles and Arline Mannschreck on November 6, 1944; he graduated from Central High School in 1962, where he was president of his class for all four years and president of the National Honor Society; he was also tri-captain of the football team and an All-American football player; he graduated from Texas Christian University in 1966 with a Bachelor of Arts and was president of the Phi Delta Theta fraternity; he served in Vietnam as a United States Marine Corps aviator, flying attack helicopters; and

WHEREAS, Craig Mannschreck was a pillar of the Saint Joseph, Missouri community; he served as president of the Mannschreck Book Store and on the AAA Board for the Midwest Region; he took great pride in running the chains at Central High School football games for 40 years; he was a pickle ball enthusiast; he was a deacon of Wyatt Park Christian Church, president of the board, and sang in the church choir; and

WHEREAS, In 2000, Craig Mannschreck became chief operating officer of Resource One in Springfield, Illinois; he quickly became an irreplaceable part of the Springfield community; and

WHEREAS, Springfield, Resource One became a household name for office furnishings; they supplied furniture for nine of the 11 state universities, many community colleges, both the House and Senate chambers at the Capitol, the Attorney General's office, the Speaker of the House's office, legislative staff offices, the Illinois EPA, three Illinois National Guard readiness centers, Lincoln's Challenge in Rantoul, numerous city and county organizations, and lobbyist and association offices across the State; and

WHEREAS, Craig Mannschreck was proud of the business relationships Resource One maintained with private businesses in Springfield and across Illinois; from the mom-and-pop business to prominent Fortune 500 companies, he treated all with the same level of respect and attention; in 2011, he was a co-recipient, along with his business partner Cindy Davis, of the Greater Springfield Chamber of Commerce Small Business Person of the Year award; and

WHEREAS, For 18 years, Craig Mannschreck was a weekday fixture in downtown Springfield, as a business owner, landlord, resident, and merry soul; he would stop in to talk to everyone from a bookshop owner to a bank president, treating everyone with the same level of respect and courtesy; he never walked past a person on the street without asking them how they were; he was a humble man who will be most remembered for his good nature and concern for others; and

WHEREAS, Craig Mannschreck was preceded in death by his parents; and

WHEREAS, Craig Mannschreck is survived by his wife, Judith; his sons, Chapman (Ashley) and Mitchell (Lauren); his brother, Dannen (Sandy); his sister, Sherrill Adams (Jerry); his grandchildren, Campbell, Colt, Henry, and Dalton; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Charles Craig Mannschreck and extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Craig Mannschreck as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
