1 | HOUSE RESOLUTION
| ||||||
2 | WHEREAS, Between 1917 and 1918, the active years of | ||||||
3 | American combat in World War I, business people all over | ||||||
4 | Illinois found themselves working together to support the war | ||||||
5 | effort; and
| ||||||
6 | WHEREAS, After the coming of peace on November 11, 1918, a | ||||||
7 | day now remembered as Veterans Day, many business people | ||||||
8 | throughout the State wanted to maintain the ties that had | ||||||
9 | brought them together; and
| ||||||
10 | WHEREAS, On May 27, 1919, in celebration of the return of | ||||||
11 | peace and prosperity and with high hopes for the future, 24 | ||||||
12 | business leaders met in Quincy with plans to create a statewide | ||||||
13 | business organization that would promote and protect the | ||||||
14 | business climate in Illinois; and
| ||||||
15 | WHEREAS, The Secretary of State's office chartered the | ||||||
16 | Illinois Chamber of Commerce on August 2, 1919; and
| ||||||
17 | WHEREAS, Many businesses throughout Illinois joined the | ||||||
18 | new organization and raised resources to open the Chamber's | ||||||
19 | office in Springfield in 1923; and
| ||||||
20 | WHEREAS, Since 1919, the Illinois Chamber of Commerce has |

1 | used its resources to sponsor, publish, promote, and distribute | ||||||
2 | research on issues important to the Illinois economy and its | ||||||
3 | ability to maintain and create jobs; and
| ||||||
4 | WHEREAS, In 2019, the Illinois Chamber of Commerce has | ||||||
5 | continued to take the lead in speaking out in favor of | ||||||
6 | Illinois' business community and advocating for pro-employment | ||||||
7 | and pro-growth policies throughout the State; and
| ||||||
8 | WHEREAS, This year, the Illinois Chamber of Commerce is | ||||||
9 | celebrating its 100th anniversary as an entity that fights for | ||||||
10 | and protects workplaces, economic growth, and the development | ||||||
11 | of Illinois as a good place to live and to create jobs; | ||||||
12 | therefore, be it

13 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE | ||||||
14 | HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that | ||||||
15 | we congratulate the Illinois Chamber of Commerce on its 100 | ||||||
16 | years of support for economic development in Illinois and wish | ||||||
17 | them many more successful years; and be it further

18 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
19 | presented to Todd Maisch, President and Chief Executive Officer | ||||||
20 | of the Illinois Chamber of Commerce.
