2 | WHEREAS, The American Legion is a U.S. war veterans' | ||||||
3 | organization comprised of state, U.S. territory, and overseas | ||||||
4 | departments along with local posts; and
| ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, The American Legion was founded at the American | ||||||
6 | Club near Place de la Concorde in Paris, France by members of | ||||||
7 | the American Expeditionary Forces on March 15, 1919; and
| ||||||
8 | WHEREAS, The American Legion was chartered by the U.S. | ||||||
9 | Congress on September 16, 1919; and
| ||||||
10 | WHEREAS, The Yorkville American Legion Post #489 currently | ||||||
11 | has over 600 members; and
| ||||||
12 | WHEREAS, The American Legion Post #489 commissioned the War | ||||||
13 | Memorial located in the United City of Yorkville Town Square, | ||||||
14 | 301 N. Bridge, Yorkville, IL 60560 in Kendall County; and
| ||||||
15 | WHEREAS, The Yorkville War Memorial was dedicated by Legion | ||||||
16 | Commander Robert Goins on May 30, 1969; the Memorial recognizes | ||||||
17 | the Kendall County service members who made the ultimate | ||||||
18 | sacrifice during their service in a time of war; and
| ||||||
19 | WHEREAS, The American Legion Post #489 and the United City |
| |||||||
| |||||||
1 | of Yorkville continue to maintain the Memorial in honor of | ||||||
2 | those who have fought and died in the defense of freedom; and
| ||||||
3 | WHEREAS, The sacrifices made by the 61 solders from Kendall | ||||||
4 | County who gave their lives for freedom will forever be | ||||||
5 | memorialized by the Yorkville Legion War Memorial; and
| ||||||
6 | WHEREAS, The losses in defense of freedom felt by the City | ||||||
7 | of Yorkville and every community across the U.S. shall be | ||||||
8 | honored by memorial services at the War Memorial in Yorkville; | ||||||
9 | and
| ||||||
10 | WHEREAS, The American Legion recently held the Annual | ||||||
11 | Memorial Day Ceremony at the Memorial to remember and honor 61 | ||||||
12 | Yorkville and Kendall County fallen service members, as well as | ||||||
13 | all men and women who are currently serving or have served in | ||||||
14 | defense of freedoms and the American way of life; and
| ||||||
15 | WHEREAS, Military men and women, past and present, are the | ||||||
16 | protectors of the American way of life; therefore, be it
| ||||||
17 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE | ||||||
18 | HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that | ||||||
19 | that we commend the men and women of the American Legion for | ||||||
20 | their vigilant support of those who serve and have served in | ||||||
21 | the Armed Forces; and be it further

1 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
2 | presented to the Yorkville American Legion Post #489 as an | ||||||
3 | expression of our esteem and respect.
