HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives would like to commend Mary Nell Chew of
4Carbondale for her generous donation of $83,000 to fund an
5Honor Flight, giving approximately 85 veterans an opportunity
6to see the memorials and sights of Washington D.C.; and
 
7    WHEREAS, While Mary Nell Chew is not a veteran herself, she
8has six veterans in her family and wanted to honor those who
9served our nation by giving them an opportunity they would
10never forget; and
 
11    WHEREAS, Mary Nell Chew had applied to be a guardian with
12the Veterans Honor Flight of Southern Illinois but was denied
13due to being "too old"; instead, she presented the organization
14with an $83,000 check, which helped many veterans experience
15their first Honor Flight; and
 
16    WHEREAS, Mary Nell Chew's donation funded the fifth Honor
17Flight for the Veterans Honor Flight of Southern Illinois; it
18departed on May 14, 2019 with more veterans onboard than any
19other previous flight; therefore, be it
 
20    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
21HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that

1we commend Mary Nell Chew for her generous donation and
2eagerness to honor those who have served our nation, and we
3hope all of the veterans on this Honor Flight had a fantastic
4day in Washington D.C.; and be it further
 
5    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
6presented to Mary Nell Chew as a symbol of our respect and
7esteem.
