2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | ||||||
3 | Representatives wish to congratulate Kenyatta Jackson and | ||||||
4 | Jonathan Riley on graduating from Chicago State University and | ||||||
5 | being selected as Ms. and Mr. Chicago State University; and
| ||||||
6 | WHEREAS, In order to qualify for Mr. and Ms. Chicago State | ||||||
7 | University, students have to have a minimum GPA of 2.75, | ||||||
8 | complete an application, and write a personal statement | ||||||
9 | detailing their intended platform; after applications have | ||||||
10 | been reviewed, students must participate in practice for the | ||||||
11 | Mr./Ms. Chicago State University Pageant, which has several | ||||||
12 | different categories, including opening introductions and | ||||||
13 | platform speeches, school spirit, talent, and, career | ||||||
14 | inspiration, and is judged by the campus community; and
| ||||||
15 | WHEREAS, Kenyatta Jackson, Ms. Chicago State University, | ||||||
16 | is a junior majoring in criminal justice and minoring in | ||||||
17 | Spanish; she graduated from Evanston Township High School; she | ||||||
18 | recently won a $5,000 Thurgood Marshall College Fund | ||||||
19 | scholarship through Wells Fargo; she currently serves as a | ||||||
20 | Resident Assistant and has a GPA of 3.25; and

21 | WHEREAS, Jonathan Riley, Mr. Chicago State University, is | ||||||
22 | completing his final year as a collegiate undergraduate, |

1 | studying sociology, and minoring in media and television | ||||||
2 | production; he graduated from Walther Lutheran High School and | ||||||
3 | then attended Hampton University, where he excelled in dancing | ||||||
4 | and performance arts; he left Hampton to enter the workforce in | ||||||
5 | 2001; he later joined Pastor Corey Brooks and Project HOOD, and | ||||||
6 | they walked across the country for four months to bring | ||||||
7 | awareness to gun violence in Chicago and inner cities | ||||||
8 | throughout the nation; he then served as outreach coordinator | ||||||
9 | for an incarceration alternative program for youth males ages | ||||||
10 | 13-18; after two years in that role, he transitioned to the | ||||||
11 | Geneva Foundation, where he did similar work; and
| ||||||
12 | WHEREAS, Jonathan Riley enrolled at Chicago State | ||||||
13 | University in the fall of 2016; he served in leadership roles | ||||||
14 | with Word Up!, TEMBO, Chicago State University's Upward Bound | ||||||
15 | Program, WCSU radio, the first-year experience, and Greek life | ||||||
16 | on campus; he is a member of the first class of Chicago State | ||||||
17 | University Student Ambassadors and is President of the Theta | ||||||
18 | Zeta of Kappa Alpha Psi; therefore, be it

19 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE | ||||||
20 | HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that | ||||||
21 | we congratulate Kenyatta Jackson and Jonathan Riley on their | ||||||
22 | graduation from Chicago State University and on being selected | ||||||
23 | as Ms. and Mr. Chicago State University and commend their hard | ||||||
24 | work and dedication in pursuing their education; and be it |
