2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of |
3 | | Representatives are pleased to recognize milestone
events in |
4 | | the lives of Illinois leaders; and
|
5 | | WHEREAS, It has come to our attention that Peoria City |
6 | | Councilman At-Large Eric Turner is retiring after
24 years of |
7 | | elected municipal service to the City of Peoria; and
|
8 | | WHEREAS, Councilman Turner is a proud Peoria native, |
9 | | growing up in the Warner Homes on the south
side of Peoria and |
10 | | attending high school at the historic Spalding Institute; and
|
11 | | WHEREAS, Councilman Turner is an U.S. Army veteran, having |
12 | | served in Vietnam in 1966 and 1967; he remains active in Peoria |
13 | | veteran's affairs activities and leads the coordination of
|
14 | | Peoria's annual Memorial Day celebration at the Gateway |
15 | | Building on the Peoria Riverfront; and |
16 | | WHEREAS, Councilman Turner received a bachelor's degree in |
17 | | management from the University of Illinois in 1982 and a |
18 | | master's degree in marketing from DePaul University in 1986; |
19 | | and |
20 | | WHEREAS, Councilman Turner began his professional career |

1 | | at Caterpillar in 1968, where he worked in
both the marketing |
2 | | and human resource departments; his most notable role was as |
3 | | marketing
manager, where he was praised for his strategic and |
4 | | problem-solving abilities; he retired from
Caterpillar in 2010 |
5 | | after 41 years of service; and |
6 | | WHEREAS, Councilman Turner was first elected as an At-Large |
7 | | Peoria City Councilman in 1995 and was
re-elected for five |
8 | | additional terms; as councilman, he demonstrated excellent |
9 | | leadership abilities
and a strong passion for the improvement |
10 | | and growth of Peoria; and |
11 | | WHEREAS, Councilman Turner attended the annual Regional |
12 | | Neighborhood Network Conference with a
delegation of Peoria |
13 | | neighborhood leaders, and he played the leading role in hosting |
14 | | the 2014 RNNC event
in Peoria; his neighborhood dedication has |
15 | | been commemorated with a City of Peoria neighborhood
award |
16 | | named in his honor; and
|
17 | | WHEREAS, Councilman Turner helped launched the East Bluff |
18 | | Rebound basketball program in 2009, where
he served as referee, |
19 | | scorekeeper, and chief motivator for young adults in East |
20 | | Bluff; his leadership
skills and dedication helped to create |
21 | | the East Bluff Community Center at Saint Bernard's School; and
|
22 | | WHEREAS, Councilman Turner has held monthly early-morning |
|

1 | | breakfast chats with neighborhood
leaders in room 112 at City |
2 | | Hall, and he is respected by volunteers and neighborhood |
3 | | organizers
throughout Peoria; and |
4 | | WHEREAS, Councilman Turner has served as deputy mayor, |
5 | | Peoria Liquor Commissioner, and council
liaison to numerous |
6 | | civic organizations; he is the most tenured member on the City
|
7 | | Council and has been firmly committed to his constituents; he |
8 | | has dedicated his public service career to the protection of |
9 | | neighborhoods and the promotion of
economic development; |
10 | | therefore, be it
|
11 | | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE |
12 | | HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that |
13 | | we commend Eric Turner for 24 years of public service on the |
14 | | Peoria City Council and offer best
wishes for a well-deserved |
15 | | retirement; and be it further

16 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be |
17 | | presented to Councilman Turner as a symbol of our respect and |
18 | | esteem.
