HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Albert
4Yum-Chiu Wong, who passed away on March 8, 2019 at the age of
577; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Albert Yum-Chiu Wong was born in Hong King to Wong
7Hing Lun and Tang Sue Fang on April 3, 1941; he showed a strong
8aptitude for learning at an early age and had a reputation as a
9gifted student when he attended Pui Ching Middle School; he
10received a scholarship for college that brought him to the
11United States; he graduated with honors from the University of
12California Berkeley with a degree in chemistry; he went on to
13pursue graduate studies in chemical physics at the University
14of Chicago as well as Chemical Engineering at Illinois
15Institute of Technology; and
 
16    WHEREAS, While in Chicago, Albert Yum-Chiu Wong met
17Bernarda "Bernie" Lo and was so enraptured by her that he
18regularly traveled to St. Louis, Missouri to visit her while
19she attended Washington University; they married in Chicago in
20December 1968; they welcomed their only daughter, Jacinta, a
21few years later; and
 
22    WHEREAS, Albert Yum-Chiu Wong had a passion for

1problem-solving and making businesses better; these skills led
2him to a wide variety of jobs, including pouch food processing,
3real estate, and owning a Chinese restaurant; he enjoyed
4strategizing and worked with Flying Food Fare in multiple
5positions, helping troubleshoot different projects; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Albert Yum-Chiu Wong enjoyed playing ping pong,
7cooking, and helping Bernie with whatever she needed for the
8Chinese American Service League; in the last few years, they
9enjoyed traveling abroad and visiting extended family and
10friends around the world; and
 
11    WHEREAS, Albert Yum-Chiu Wong is survived by his loving
12wife, Bernie; his daughter, Jacinta; his grandchildren, Tiana
13and Matthew; his sisters, Rosalind and Suzanna; and his
14brother-in-law, Peter; therefore, be it
 
15    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
16HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
17we mourn the passing of Albert Yum-Chiu Wong and extend our
18sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew
19and loved him; and be it further
 
20    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
21presented to the family of Albert Yum-Chiu Wong as an
22expression of our deepest sympathy.
