HOUSE RESOLUTION

  
 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of 
3Representatives wish to commend James A. "Jim" Karagianis for 
4his exemplary service as a member of the Northbrook Board of 
5Trustees and his many contributions to his community; and
  
 
6    WHEREAS, Jim Karagianis was appointed to fill a vacancy on 
7the Northbrook Board of Trustees on June 8, 1993 and has served 
8for the past 26 years; during his
tenure, he served as chair of 
9the Housing and Human Services, Public Works, Public Safety,

10and Planning and Zoning Committees; he was also a member of the 
11Public Works,
Contracts and Franchises, Public Safety, 
12Administration and Finance, and Planning and Zoning

13Committees; and
  
 
14    WHEREAS, As the chairman of the Planning and Zoning 
15Committee for 14 years, Jim
Karagianis shared his expertise in 
16the areas of land development and engineering and always had an

17interest in improving the village; he served as chair
of 
18several task forces focused on improving downtown Northbrook; 
19under his guidance, the
village adopted the Village Green 
20Overlay District, enacted the Facade Improvement and

21Streetscape Improvement Grant programs, saw the relocation of  
22Sunset Foods and the transformation of the Skokie Boulevard 
23corridor and the Techny Property, including the Willow Festival

1Shopping Center, and
several major modifications to Northbrook 
2Court; he was also instrumental in the
formulation of the 
3village's Comprehensive Plan, adopted in 2010; and
  
 

  
4    WHEREAS, Throughout the 30 years he has lived in 
5Northbrook, Jim Karagianis has been active in
the community as 
6Northbrook Symphony Board President, Rotary Club of Northbrook 
7Service
Director, and a Coat Off Your Back volunteer, among 
8other community commitments; therefore, be it
  
 
9    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE 
10HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that 
11we commend James A. "Jim" Karagianis for his exemplary service 
12as a member of the Northbrook Board of Trustees and his many 
13contributions to his community; and be it further
  
 
14    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 
15presented to Jim Karagianis as a symbol of our respect and 
16esteem.
