2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | ||||||
3 | Representatives wish to congratulate Landon Jr. and Bobra Jean | ||||||
4 | (Falkner) Walker on the occasion of their 60th wedding | ||||||
5 | anniversary; and
| ||||||
6 | WHEREAS, The Walkers met in Holly Springs, Mississippi and | ||||||
7 | were married on February 1, 1959; they have five children, | ||||||
8 | Brenda (David) Mason, Ricky Walker, Perry Walker, Kerry | ||||||
9 | (Andria) Walker, and Kanefus Walker; six grandsons, DeLandon | ||||||
10 | (Carmen) Mason, Ricky (Angel) Walker, DeVonn Walker, Kerry | ||||||
11 | Walker, Marcellus Walker, and Perry Sibby; four | ||||||
12 | granddaughters, Ameythyst (Kyle) Smith, DeResha Browne, Amber | ||||||
13 | Mason, and Chanelle (Brandon) Randell; and 21 | ||||||
14 | great-grandchildren; and
| ||||||
15 | WHEREAS, In 1964, the Walkers, with four of their five | ||||||
16 | children, relocated to the southern suburbs of Chicago; Landon | ||||||
17 | began working in the steel industry and Bobra remained a | ||||||
18 | homemaker as their children became old enough to attend school;
| ||||||
19 | for the next six years, the family settled in to their | ||||||
20 | community and local surroundings; they found their church home | ||||||
21 | at Christ Temple Community Baptist Church in Markham, purchased | ||||||
22 | their first home in Harvey, and added a new member to their | ||||||
23 | family; and

1 | WHEREAS, Landon and Bobra made sure their family | ||||||
2 | participated in activities or events that included them all; as | ||||||
3 | the kids grew older, Landon became involved in the local | ||||||
4 | political scene while Bobra continued to make a home, not just | ||||||
5 | for her immediate family but for extended family members and | ||||||
6 | friends as well; it is estimated that over 15 different family | ||||||
7 | members and friends resided at their residence at some point in | ||||||
8 | time; and
| ||||||
9 | WHEREAS, All five children graduated from Thornridge High | ||||||
10 | School and were gainfully employed through self-employment, | ||||||
11 | family employment, local corporate establishments, or attended | ||||||
12 | college in Illinois; the Walkers have lived in the southern | ||||||
13 | suburbs for 55 years and have been active in politics, | ||||||
14 | community activism, school boards, and local sports; and | ||||||
15 | WHEREAS, Landon is a retired superintendent for the Streets | ||||||
16 | and Sanitation Department in Harvey and is currently a | ||||||
17 | part-time school bus driver, as he enjoys driving and working | ||||||
18 | with children; Bobra continues to be a homemaker for her | ||||||
19 | immediate family as well as for extended family and friends, | ||||||
20 | all while remaining active by exercising three times a week; | ||||||
21 | they also remain members of their local church; and | ||||||
22 | WHEREAS, The Walkers marriage has survived 12 U.S. |

1 | Presidents and 12 Illinois Governors; and
| ||||||
2 | WHEREAS, In February 2019 with 100 local family members and | ||||||
3 | friends in attendance, Landon and Bobra celebrated 60 years of | ||||||
4 | marriage; Landon and Bobra both said the key to their 60 years | ||||||
5 | together has been patience and listening; therefore, be it
| ||||||
6 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE | ||||||
7 | HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that | ||||||
8 | we congratulate Landon Jr. and Bobra Jean Walker on their 60th | ||||||
9 | wedding anniversary, and we wish them many more wonderful | ||||||
10 | years; and be it further

11 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
12 | presented to the Walkers as a symbol of our respect and esteem.
