2 | | WHEREAS, Elgin High School is one of the oldest high |
3 | | schools in the State of Illinois and is a beloved educational |
4 | | institution that has continually aspired to be a place of |
5 | | "Education for All"; and
|
6 | | WHEREAS, Founded in 1969, the school's founder, Charles F. |
7 | | Kimball, insisted that "no other public interest, whether it be |
8 | | the paving of streets, the building of a bridge, the laying of |
9 | | a system of sewerage...is of so great importance to this |
10 | | community as the schools of the city"; and
|
11 | | WHEREAS, There were 12 students enrolled in the first |
12 | | class; the present freshman class has 817 students, and the |
13 | | course of study has adapted to fit the changing times, from |
14 | | classical to commercial, comprehensive/college preparatory, |
15 | | and career path; and
|
16 | | WHEREAS, Elgin High School has occupied four locations, and |
17 | | the school has resided on Maroon drive since 1972; in the |
18 | | 1960s, a movement to change the school's name was met with firm |
19 | | resolve on the part of the community to remain the Elgin High |
20 | | School Maroons; and
|
21 | | WHEREAS, More than 43,000 graduates have made |
