2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of |
3 | | Representatives wish to congratulate John Xavier Rottman on |
4 | | being selected as Man of the Year by St. Cornelius Catholic |
5 | | Church's Holy Name Society; and
|
6 | | WHEREAS, John Rottman was born to Lucille and Francis |
7 | | Rottman
on May 25, 1948, the younger brother to Tom and older |
8 | | brother to Nancy; he grew up on the northwest side of Chicago, |
9 | | spent his grade school years
at St. Cornelius, and graduated in |
10 | | 1962; he graduated from Quigley Preparatory North Seminary in |
11 | | 1966 and began to study the monastic life at St. Bede Academy |
12 | | in Peru; however, he eventually decided that the seminary was |
13 | | not for him; and
|
14 | | WHEREAS, John Rottman fell in love with Candace "Candy" |
15 | | Patla, his
sister Nancy's best friend, and they were married on |
16 | | May 27, 1973; and |
17 | | WHEREAS, John Rottman joined the plumber's union in 1973 |
18 | | and worked for a few different contractors before joining the |
19 | | City of
Chicago Water Department, where he worked until his |
20 | | retirement in 2005; and |
21 | | WHEREAS, John Rottman and Candy raised four children, Tim, |

1 | | Mike, John, and Katie and continued to stay active at St. |
2 | | Thelca Parish; they were on the parish council, the
liturgy |
3 | | committee, in the choirs, and managed the altar servers while |
4 | | their
children attended the school; eventually, John decided to |
5 | | become a deacon; he started the diaconate
program in 1998 and |
6 | | was ordained in May 2002; and |
7 | | WHEREAS, John Rottman and Candy unofficially
adopted many |
8 | | children; they hosted numerous exchange students over
the years |
9 | | from Ireland, Spain, Mexico, and Columbia; they also accepted |
10 | | their kid's friends as children of their own; John still
keeps |
11 | | close to those who have come through his life; and
|
12 | | WHEREAS, John Rottman and his family stayed at St. Thelca |
13 | | until 2014 when he was transferred to
St. Cornelius; he has |
14 | | greatly enjoyed his time with the St. Cornelius
parishioners |
15 | | throughout all the different activities and events; therefore, |
16 | | be it

17 | | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE |
18 | | HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that |
19 | | we congratulate John Xavier Rottman on being selected as Man of |
20 | | the Year by St. Cornelius Catholic Church's Holy Name Society, |
21 | | and we wish him the best in all his future endeavors; and be it |
