2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | ||||||
3 | Representatives wish to commend Mary Patton, 82 years young, on | ||||||
4 | her continuing work as a volunteer lobbyist for AARP; and
| ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, Mary Patton is an outspoken champion on policies | ||||||
6 | regarding elder abuse and financial exploitation; she believes | ||||||
7 | in empowering all citizens to raise their voices to make a | ||||||
8 | difference; she has served as an AARP Illinois lobbyist for 20 | ||||||
9 | years and represents Peoria County and AARP as a member of the | ||||||
10 | Peoria County Human Services Transportation Plan Steering | ||||||
11 | Committee; and
| ||||||
12 | WHEREAS, Mary Patton served on the AARP IL Executive | ||||||
13 | Council, where she championed consumer protections and senior | ||||||
14 | services for all residents of the State; she was a key advisor | ||||||
15 | and AARP champion during the nursing home reform negotiations | ||||||
16 | and law drafting in 2010; she was featured as an AARP Illinois | ||||||
17 | spokesperson in local and statewide media coverage and was | ||||||
18 | featured in AARP's national January publication on the budget | ||||||
19 | and fiscal climate in Illinois; she was part of the | ||||||
20 | negotiations in addressing Statehouse reforms of both the power | ||||||
21 | of attorney statutes and pay day lending, as well as the issue | ||||||
22 | of security freeze usage on credit reports in Illinois; she was | ||||||
23 | awarded the AARP Andrus Award for Community Service; and

1 | WHEREAS, Mary Patton is ardently concerned about | ||||||
2 | safeguarding the landline services of seniors and maintaining | ||||||
3 | low rates on utilities; she has fought to protect home and | ||||||
4 | community-based funding for the aging populations in Illinois | ||||||
5 | and their family caregivers; she lobbied for five years to | ||||||
6 | enact the Secure Choice into State law; and
| ||||||
7 | WHEREAS, Mary Patton is a passionate member of the Illinois | ||||||
8 | League of Women Voters and has heightened the recognition of | ||||||
9 | women through her work; she possesses an unbreakable spirit and | ||||||
10 | is known around the rail as an outspoken champion for the | ||||||
11 | 50-plus population; and
| ||||||
12 | WHEREAS, A mother and a grandmother, Mary Patton is a | ||||||
13 | 55-year resident of Peoria and has been married to her husband, | ||||||
14 | Dean, for 55 years; she is an active member of All Saints Greek | ||||||
15 | Orthodox Church in Peoria; she shaped the minds and spirits of | ||||||
16 | countless Peoria elementary students as a science teacher in | ||||||
17 | Peoria's elementary school system and also taught high school | ||||||
18 | science for Air Force Dependents Schools in England and | ||||||
19 | Newfoundland; she was elected Peoria County Circuit Clerk three | ||||||
20 | times; she has been an unwavering voice for the protection and | ||||||
21 | enhancement of all services for the aging population in | ||||||
22 | Illinois and family caregivers; therefore, be it

1 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE | ||||||
2 | HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that | ||||||
3 | we commend Mary Patton for her continued work in support of the | ||||||
4 | aging population in Illinois; and be it further
| ||||||
5 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
6 | presented to Mary Patton as an expression of our esteem and | ||||||
7 | respect.
