HOUSE RESOLUTION

  
 
2    WHEREAS, February is nationally recognized as Career and 
3Technical Education Month; and
  
 
4    WHEREAS, Career and Technical Education (CTE) programs in 
5Illinois provide instruction for careers in high-wage, 
6high-skill, and in-demand occupations in fields such as, 
7business and finance, healthcare, information technology, 
8advanced manufacturing, and human services; and
  
 
9    WHEREAS, CTE programs continue to strengthen the academic 
10knowledge and technical skills of students, provide smooth 
11pathways to and through postsecondary education and 
12employment, assist in meeting the Illinois Learning Standards, 
13and close achievement gaps; and
  
 
14    WHEREAS, CTE programs are instrumental in supporting local 
15communities, ensuring student success, and promoting 
16continuous improvement; and
  
 
17    WHEREAS, Approximately 414,000 students are enrolled in 
18CTE across the State of Illinois; and
  
 
19    WHEREAS, CTE prepares students for tomorrow's careers and 
20drives economic growth by matching employability skills with

1workforce demand; and
  
 
2    WHEREAS, CTE provides relevant academic and technical 
3coursework leading to college credits and industry-recognized 
4credentials for secondary and postsecondary learners; and
  
 
5    WHEREAS, All students benefit from career-connected 
6learning, opportunities to develop and discover practical 
7skills and strengths, and career exploration; and
  
 
8    WHEREAS, February 23, 2019 marks the 102nd anniversary of 
9the signing of the Smith-Hughes Vocational Education Act of 
101917, which was the first major Federal investment in Career 
11and Technical Education and laid the foundation for the 
12bipartisan, bicameral support for Career and Technical 
13Education that continues today; and
  
 
14    WHEREAS, The Strengthening Career and Technical Education 
15for 21st Act, known as Perkins V, will take full effect on July 
161, 2019; therefore, be it
  
 
17    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE 
18HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that 
19we designate February 2019 as Career and Technical Education 
20Month to celebrate Career and Technical Education across the 
21State of Illinois; and be it further

2presented to the Illinois State Board of Education and the 
3Illinois Community College Board.
