2 | WHEREAS, Donald Trump shamefully rolled back the | ||||||
3 | hard-fought progress of the LGBTQ+
community since the repeal | ||||||
4 | of Don't Ask, Don't Tell by banning transgender Americans from
| ||||||
5 | serving in our country's military; and
| ||||||
6 | WHEREAS, The Supreme Court of the United States wrongfully | ||||||
7 | validated his attack on our
brave service members by | ||||||
8 | temporarily allowing the ban to go into effect; and
| ||||||
9 | WHEREAS, In response to this hateful attack on service | ||||||
10 | members by our country's very
own commander-in-chief and the | ||||||
11 | nation's highest court, United States Senator Tammy
Duckworth, | ||||||
12 | an Illinois hero, responded by stating that when she was | ||||||
13 | bleeding to death in her
Black Hawk helicopter on a dusty field | ||||||
14 | in Iraq, she didn't care if the American troops risking
their | ||||||
15 | lives to help save her were gay, straight, transgender, black, | ||||||
16 | white, male, or female; and
| ||||||
17 | WHEREAS, Since taking office, Donald Trump and his | ||||||
18 | extremist allies have worked to deny
basic human rights to | ||||||
19 | LGBTQ+ Americans; and | ||||||
20 | WHEREAS, Not only has Donald Trump's administration banned | ||||||
21 | LGBTQ+ Americans from honorably serving our
country, they have |

1 | argued against people qualifying for Title VII protection under | ||||||
2 | civil rights
legislation, which would allow people to be fired | ||||||
3 | for their sexual orientation with no grounds for
legal | ||||||
4 | recourse; and | ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, Donald Trump's administration has revoked | ||||||
6 | guidelines that protected LGBTQ+ youth in their schools; and | ||||||
7 | WHEREAS, Donald Trump's administration has halted or | ||||||
8 | rolled back regulations intended to protect LGBTQ+
Americans | ||||||
9 | from discrimination in health care settings; and | ||||||
10 | WHEREAS, These attacks on our fellow Americans are an | ||||||
11 | affront to the founding principles of
our nation; and | ||||||
12 | WHEREAS, In a time of dangerous, anti-democratic rhetoric | ||||||
13 | on the rise across the world, Donald
Trump's actions hinder our | ||||||
14 | country's standing in the world as a leader of justice and | ||||||
15 | equality; and
| ||||||
16 | WHEREAS, The State of Illinois values and respects the | ||||||
17 | inherent worth of every person,
regardless of gender identity | ||||||
18 | and sexual orientation; and
| ||||||
19 | WHEREAS, The State of Illinois will continue fighting for | ||||||
20 | every one of its citizens by continuing to
enact state-level |

1 | protections that support the LGBTQ+ community; and | ||||||
2 | WHEREAS, People throughout the State of Illinois have gone | ||||||
3 | to great lengths to be allies and support our fellow LGBTQ+ | ||||||
4 | residents by planning pride festivities in communities like | ||||||
5 | Chicago, Carbondale, Aurora, and Buffalo Grove; therefore, be | ||||||
6 | it

7 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE | ||||||
8 | HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that | ||||||
9 | we condemn Donald Trump's blatant bigotry and discriminatory | ||||||
10 | policies against the LGBTQ+ community, whose perseverance and | ||||||
11 | battle for justice embody the true spirit of our union, a | ||||||
12 | spirit which calls on us to perfect our union by correcting the | ||||||
13 | wrongs in society until we are all truly equal; and be it | ||||||
14 | further

15 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
16 | presented to BG Pride, Mundelein LGBT Alliance and Allies, and | ||||||
17 | to all members of the Illinois Congressional Delegation.
