|
2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of |
3 | | Representatives wish to congratulate the students,
faculty, |
4 | | staff, and alumni of Providence Catholic High School in New |
5 | | Lenox on the 100th anniversary of its founding; and
|
6 | | WHEREAS, Providence Catholic was established in 1918 when |
7 | | the Sisters of Providence from St. Mary-of-the-Woods, Indiana |
8 | | were asked to staff a small high school and teach the 59 |
9 | | students who were
attending; the school was named Providence |
10 | | High School on October 22, 1918; and
|
11 | | WHEREAS, Student enrollment at the school grew through the |
12 | | years, and a new co-institutional facility
was opened in |
13 | | September of 1962 with an enrollment of 340; by 1993, |
14 | | enrollment reached 1,140; and |
15 | | WHEREAS, Today, Providence Catholic is a co-educational, |
16 | | college preparatory Augustinian high school
located on 75 acres |
17 | | in New Lenox; and |
18 | | WHEREAS, Students come from more than 70 elementary, |
19 | | middle, and junior high schools within a
30 mile radius; and |
20 | | WHEREAS, Dedicated and caring faculty and staff teach a |

1 | | demanding curriculum and conduct inclusive
service programs in |
2 | | a nurturing environment, all with the core Augustinian values |
3 | | of truth, unity, and love;
the most recent graduating class |
4 | | performed over 100,000 cumulative hours of community service |
5 | | during
their high school careers; and
|
6 | | WHEREAS, Since 2010, Providence Catholic has produced 840 |
7 | | Illinois State Scholars, 12 National Merit
finalists, one |
8 | | National Merit semi-finalist, 57 National Merit commended |
9 | | students, four National Hispanic
Scholars, and one National |
10 | | Achievement Scholarship Program finalist; and
|
11 | | WHEREAS, In addition to the strong academic offerings, |
12 | | Providence Catholic is also known for its
competitive |
13 | | athletics; the school has 30 state championship titles, the |
14 | | most of any private high school in
the State of Illinois; and
|
15 | | WHEREAS, Providence Catholic continues to build upon a |
16 | | strong foundation of rigorous academics,
competitive |
17 | | athletics, and extensive community service; therefore, be it
|
18 | | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE |
19 | | HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that |
20 | | we congratulate Providence Catholic High School in New Lenox on |
21 | | a century of
education, admire all their years of success, and |
22 | | know that, through the hard work of
the students, faculty, and |
