HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Jim
4Mitchell of Johnston City, who passed away on January 1, 2019
5at the age of 74; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Growing up, Jim Mitchell was active in the Boy
7Scouts and achieved the rank of Eagle Scout; he graduated from
8Johnson City High School in 1962; he earned a degree in
9vocational education from Southern Illinois
10University-Carbondale; he was a veteran of the United States
11Army and served honorably; and
 
12    WHEREAS, Jim Mitchell worked for the Illinois Department of
13Transportation and retired in 2002; in 2003, he began working
14as a sales agent with Modern Woodmen of America; and
 
15    WHEREAS, Jim Mitchell remained actively involved with the
16Boy Scouts and volunteered his time to Boy Scout Troop #19 of
17Johnston City and was awarded the Silver Beaver Award for his
18dedication; he also served as the District Commissioner for the
19Boy Scouts in the Egyptian District of Southern Illinois; and
 
20    WHEREAS, Jim Mitchell was a member of the Lake Creek
21Masonic Lodge #729 of Johnston City; he was also a member of

1the Williamson County Shrine Club, where he enjoyed being a
2clown at many of the Shrine's functions for children; he was a
3longtime member of the First Christian Church in West
4Frankfort; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Jim Mitchell is survived by his wife, Jeannie; his
6daughter, Misty (Tom) Whittington; his son, Grant (Abby)
7Mitchell; his stepson, Glenn (D'Anne) Stephenson; his
8grandson, Trevor Whittington; his sisters, Ruth Alice Wolfe and
9Melody (Mike) Kazmi; his sister-in-law, Marilyn Mitchell; his
10brother-in-law, Jeff Duvall; and his many nieces and nephews;
11therefore, be it
 
12    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
13HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
14we mourn the passing of Jim Mitchell and extend our sincere
15condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved
16him; and be it further
 
17    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
18presented to the family of Jim Mitchell as an expression of our
19deepest sympathy.
