| 1 | HOUSE JOINT RESOLUTION
| ||||||
| 2 | WHEREAS, It is highly fitting and appropriate that we honor | ||||||
| 3 | those who made a difference through
sacrifice and service to | ||||||
| 4 | the State of Illinois; and
| ||||||
| 5 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | ||||||
| 6 | Representatives were saddened to learn of the death of McHenry
| ||||||
| 7 | County Sheriff's Deputy Jacob Keltner, who was killed in the | ||||||
| 8 | line of duty on March 7, 2019 at the age of
35; and
| ||||||
| 9 | WHEREAS, House Resolution 186 of the 101st General Assembly | ||||||
| 10 | expressed its respect for the sacrifice
made by Deputy Keltner | ||||||
| 11 | in the line of duty; and
| ||||||
| 12 | WHEREAS, There was an unprecedented public outpouring of | ||||||
| 13 | support for Deputy Keltner and his family,
as witnessed by the | ||||||
| 14 | hundreds of people who paid their respects at every turn, both | ||||||
| 15 | during formal
services and by standing along the procession | ||||||
| 16 | routes on his final trip home from Rockford to McHenry
County | ||||||
| 17 | and as he was driven to his final rest; and
| ||||||
| 18 | WHEREAS, It is fitting to remember Deputy Keltner, not only | ||||||
| 19 | for the dedication to duty that took him
from his family but | ||||||
| 20 | for what his passing did to bring a community together in both | ||||||
| 21 | its grief and its
gratitude for his sacrifice as he gave his | ||||||
| |||||||
| |||||||
| 1 | last full measure of devotion; and
| ||||||
| 2 | WHEREAS, Deputy Keltner's "End of Watch" was not the act | ||||||
| 3 | which took him from us but was the
posthumous act that brought | ||||||
| 4 | a grateful community together in its outpouring of respect for | ||||||
| 5 | a man
who gave his life in the line of duty serving the people | ||||||
| 6 | of McHenry County and the State of Illinois; therefore, be it
| ||||||
| 7 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE | ||||||
| 8 | HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, THE | ||||||
| 9 | SENATE CONCURRING HEREIN, that we designate the interchange at | ||||||
| 10 | Interstate 90 and Illinois Route 23 as the "Deputy Jacob | ||||||
| 11 | Keltner Memorial Interchange"; and be it further | ||||||
| 12 | RESOLVED, That the Illinois State Toll Highway Authority is | ||||||
| 13 | requested to erect at suitable locations,
consistent with State | ||||||
| 14 | and federal regulations, appropriate plaques or signs giving | ||||||
| 15 | notice of the name of
the "Deputy Jacob Keltner Memorial | ||||||
| 16 | Interchange"; and be it further
| ||||||
| 17 | RESOLVED, That suitable copies of this resolution be | ||||||
| 18 | presented to the family of Deputy Keltner, the
Illinois State | ||||||
| 19 | Toll Highway Authority, McHenry County, the City of Marengo, | ||||||
| 20 | and the McHenry County Sheriff's Department.
