3 | | of Illinois are saddened by the death of Staff Sergeant Edwin |
4 | | Herbert DazaChacon, formerly of
Belleville, on February 13, |
5 | | 2006; and

6 | | WHEREAS, Staff Sergeant DazaChacon was born in Bogota, |
7 | | Colombia on July 4, 1967; he graduated from Miami
Sunset High |
8 | | School in Miami, Florida in 1986; he served two separate |
9 | | enlistments in the U.S. Army;
at the time of his death, he had |
10 | | the rank of Staff Sergeant and was the NCOIC (Non-Commissioned |
11 | | Officer in Charge) of SOT-A team
708, HSC, 3rd Battalion, 7th |
12 | | Special Forces Group (A) at Fort Bragg, North Carolina on
|
13 | | deployment to Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring |
14 | | Freedom; and
|
15 | | WHEREAS, During his first enlistment, starting in 1990, |
16 | | Staff Sergeant DazaChacon served in the 82nd Airborne
Division |
17 | | and was deployed to Iraq for Operation Desert Shield/Desert |
18 | | Storm; he was subsequently
assigned to the U.S. Army Southern |
19 | | European Task Force in Vincenza, Italy and participated in
|
20 | | deployments to Egypt, Rwanda/Uganda/Zaire, Bosnia, and |
21 | | Liberia; and
|
22 | | WHEREAS, After completing his initial enlistment in 1997, |
|

1 | | Staff Sergeant DazaChacon
left active military service and |
2 | | relocated to Belleville; while in Belleville, he joined the |
3 | | U.S. Army
Reserve and completed his Bachelor of Science in |
4 | | Instructional Design and Workforce
Education at Southern |
5 | | Illinois University; during this time, he was employed as the
|
6 | | Manager of Fleet Operations for Southwestern Bell in St. Louis, |
7 | | Missouri; due to his patriotism
and undeniable calling to |
8 | | serve, he returned to active duty following the events of |
9 | | September 11, 2001; and
|
10 | | WHEREAS, Staff Sergeant DazaChacon's military awards and |
11 | | decorations include the Army Commendation
Medal, the Army |
12 | | Achievement Medal, the Army Good Conduct Medal, the National |
13 | | Defense
Service Medal, the Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, |
14 | | the Southwest Asia Services Medal, the
Kuwait Liberation Medal, |
15 | | the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, the Afghanistan
|
16 | | Campaign Medal, the Non-commissioned Officer Professional |
17 | | Development Ribbon, the Army
Service Ribbon, the Combat |
18 | | Infantryman's Badge, and the Senior Parachutist Wings; he was
|
19 | | posthumously awarded the Bronze Star for Valor, the Purple |
20 | | Heart, the Meritorious Service
Medal, and the Combat Action |
21 | | Badge; and

22 | | WHEREAS, The passing of Staff Sergeant DazaChacon has been |
23 | | deeply
felt by many, especially his mother, Smila Chacon |
24 | | Valencia, and his sisters, Monique F.
and Jessica A. |

1 | | DazaChacon; therefore, be it

2 | | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE |
3 | | HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, THE |
4 | | SENATE CONCURRING HEREIN, that we designate the section of road |
5 | | on Illinois Route 2 from North Green Mountain
Road to Shiloh |
6 | | Station Road as the "Staff Sergeant Edwin DazaChacon Memorial |
7 | | Road"; and be it further |
8 | | RESOLVED, That the Illinois Department of Transportation |
9 | | is requested to erect at
suitable locations, consistent with |
10 | | State and federal regulations, appropriate plaques or signs
|
11 | | giving notice of the name "Staff Sergeant Edwin DazaChacon |
12 | | Memorial Road"; and be it further
|
13 | | RESOLVED, That suitable copies of this resolution be |
14 | | presented to the family of Staff Sergeant DazaChacon and the |
15 | | Secretary of Transportation.
