Amends the Township Code. Provides that each political party shall, for the regular township election for 2021, nominate its candidates for township offices by primary election in accordance with the general election law rather than by caucus. Repeals the provisions on January 1, 2023. Effective immediately.

1 | | AN ACT concerning local government.
|
2 | | Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
|
3 | | represented in the General Assembly:
|
4 | | Section 5. The Township Code is amended by adding Section |
5 | | 45-57 as follows: |
6 | | (60 ILCS 1/45-57 new) |
7 | | Sec. 45-57. primary caucuses; 2021 primary election. |
8 | | (a) Notwithstanding any other provision of law, each |
9 | | political party shall, for the regular township election for |
10 | | 2021, nominate its candidates for township offices by primary |
11 | | election in accordance with the general election law rather |
12 | | than in the manner provided in Sections 45-5 through 45-55. |
13 | | (b) This Section is repealed on January 1, 2023.

14 | | Section 99. Effective date. This Act takes effect upon |
15 | | becoming law.
