    Amends the Consumer Fraud and Deceptive Business Practices Act. Provides that Internet service providers must keep all customer information confidential unless written consent is provided by the customer. Effective immediately.

1    AN ACT concerning business.
 
2    Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
3represented in the General Assembly:
 
4    Section 5. The Consumer Fraud and Deceptive Business
5Practices Act is amended by adding Section 2WWW as follows:
 
6    (815 ILCS 505/2WWW new)
7    Sec. 2WWW. Internet customer confidentiality.
8    (a) As used in this Section, "Internet service provider"
9means any person, business, or organization qualified to do
10business in this State that provides individuals,
11corporations, or other entities with the ability to connect to
12the Internet through equipment that is located in this State.
13    (b) An Internet service provider offering services to
14Illinois consumers shall keep all customer information
15confidential unless the customer provides written consent to a
16disclosure.
17    (c) An Internet service provider that violates this Section
18commits an unlawful practice within the meaning of this Act
19and, in addition, is subject to a penalty of $500 for each
20violation.
 
21    Section 99. Effective date. This Act takes effect upon
22becoming law.
