Amends the Revised Cities and Villages Act of 1941. Removes a requirement that each petition for a nomination for mayor, city clerk, or city treasurer in the City of Chicago must be signed by at least 12,500 legal voters of the City of Chicago.

1 | | AN ACT concerning local government.
|
2 | | Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
|
3 | | represented in the General Assembly:
|
4 | | Section 5. The Revised Cities and Villages Act of 1941 is |
5 | | amended by changing Section 21-28 as follows:
|
6 | | (65 ILCS 20/21-28) (from Ch. 24, par. 21-28)
|
7 | | Sec. 21-28. Nomination by petition. |
8 | | (a) All nominations for alderman of any ward in the city |
9 | | shall be by
petition. Each petition for nomination of a |
10 | | candidate shall be signed by at least 473 legal voters of the |
11 | | ward. |
12 | | (b) All nominations for mayor, city clerk, and city |
13 | | treasurer in the city shall be by petition. Each petition for |
14 | | nomination of a candidate must be signed by at least 12,500 |
15 | | legal voters of the city.

16 | | (c) All such petitions, and procedure with
respect thereto,
|
17 | | shall conform in other respects to the provisions of the |
18 | | election and
ballot laws then in force in the city of Chicago |
19 | | concerning the nomination
of independent candidates for public |
20 | | office by petition. The method of
nomination herein provided is |
21 | | exclusive of and replaces all other methods
heretofore provided |
22 | | by law.
