Amends the Illinois Vehicle Code. Provides that no registration fee for gold star license plates shall be required from a surviving widow, widower, or parent of a person who served in the Armed Forces of the United States and
lost his or her life while in service.

1 | | AN ACT concerning transportation.

2 | | Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
|
3 | | represented in the General Assembly:
|
4 | | Section 5. The Illinois Vehicle Code is amended by changing |
5 | | Section 3-664 as follows: |
6 | | (625 ILCS 5/3-664)

7 | | Sec. 3-664. Gold Star license plates. Upon proper |
8 | | application, the Secretary of State shall
issue registration |
9 | | plates designated as Gold Star license plates to any Illinois |
10 | | resident who is the
surviving widow, widower, sibling, |
11 | | daughter, son, or parent of a person who served in the Armed |
12 | | Forces of the United States and
lost his or her life while in |
13 | | service whether in peacetime or war. The
surviving widow or |
14 | | widower and each surviving parent, daughter, son, and sibling |
15 | | shall be issued one or more sets of registration plates. |
16 | | Registration plates issued under this
Section shall be for |
17 | | first division vehicles and second division vehicles
of 8,000 |
18 | | pounds or less. The Secretary may, in his or her discretion, |
19 | | allow the plates to be issued as vanity or personalized plates |
20 | | in accordance with Section 3-405.1 of this Code. An applicant |
21 | | shall be charged only the appropriate registration fee , except |
22 | | that no registration fee shall be required from a surviving |
23 | | widow, widower, or parent .
