415 ILCS 5/22.61

    Amends the Environmental Protection Act. Provides that, on and after January 1, 2022, a retailer who sells to a customer in this State shall provide the customer with the option to receive a receipt via email. Effective immediately.

1    AN ACT concerning safety.
 
2    Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
3represented in the General Assembly:
 
4    Section 5. The Environmental Protection Act is amended by
5changing and renumbering Section 22.59 as follows:
 
6    (415 ILCS 5/22.61)
7    Sec. 22.61 22.59. Regulation of bisphenol A in business
8transaction paper.
9    (a) For purposes of this Section, "thermal paper" means
10paper with bisphenol A added to the coating.
11    (b) Beginning January 1, 2020, no person shall manufacture,
12for sale in this State, thermal paper.
13    (c) No person shall distribute or use any thermal paper for
14the making of business or banking records, including, but not
15limited to, records of receipts, credits, withdrawals,
16deposits, or credit or debit card transactions. This subsection
17shall not apply to thermal paper that was manufactured prior to
18January 1, 2020.
19    (d) The prohibition in subsections (a) and (b) shall not
20apply to paper containing recycled material.
21    (e) On and after January 1, 2022, a retailer who sells to a
22customer in this State shall provide the customer with the
23option to receive a receipt via email.

2    Section 99. Effective date. This Act takes effect upon
3becoming law.
