SYNOPSIS AS INTRODUCED:
 
10 ILCS 5/1A-14  from Ch. 46, par. 1A-14

    Amends the Election Code. Prohibits a member of the State Board of Elections from contributing, either financially or in services or goods or any other way, to a political committee or from serving as an officer of a political committee. Requires a member of the State Board of Elections serving as an officer of a political committee to resign from the political committee within 30 days after confirmation by the Senate or within 30 days of the effective date of the amendatory Act if currently serving. Effective immediately.

1    AN ACT concerning elections.
 
2    Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
3represented in the General Assembly:
 
4    Section 5. The Election Code is amended by changing Section
51A-14 as follows:
 
6    (10 ILCS 5/1A-14)  (from Ch. 46, par. 1A-14)
7    Sec. 1A-14. No member of the State Board of Elections shall
8contribute, either financially or in services or goods or any
9other way, to any political committee or serve as an officer of
10any political committee. No member of the State Board of
11Elections may become a candidate for nomination for, or
12election to, or accept appointment to or hold any other
13remunerative public office or public employment or any office
14in a political party. A member of the State Board of Elections
15serving as an officer of a political committee shall resign as
16an officer of the political committee within 30 days after
17confirmation by the Senate. A member of the State Board of
18Elections serving as an officer of a political committee on the
19effective date of this amendatory Act of the 101st General
20Assembly shall resign as an officer of the political committee
21within 30 days after the effective date of this amendatory Act
22of the 101st General Assembly. Violation of any prohibition in
23this Section shall disqualify a member of the Board and a

1vacancy is thereby created. A vacancy also exists upon the
2occurrence of any of the events enumerated in Section 25-2 of
3this Act as in the case of an elective office.
4    As used in this Section, "political committee" includes
5both the meaning provided in Section 9-1-8 of this Code and the
6meaning provided in 52 U.S.C. 30101.
