Amends the Election Code. Prohibits a person from knowingly maintaining more than one registration to vote. Provides that a violation involving multiple registrations within the State is a Class A misdemeanor. Provides that a violation involving multiple registrations in this State and another state is a Class 4 felony. Provides an affirmative defense to the violation.

1 | | AN ACT concerning elections.

2 | | Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
|
3 | | represented in the General Assembly:
|
4 | | Section 5. The Election Code is amended by adding Section |
5 | | 29-21 as follows: |
6 | | (10 ILCS 5/29-21 new) |
7 | | Sec. 29-21. Registering more than once. No person may |
8 | | knowingly maintain more than one registration to vote. A |
9 | | violation of this Section involving multiple registrations |
10 | | within the State is a Class A misdemeanor; a violation of this |
11 | | Section involving multiple registrations, where one or more |
12 | | registrations is within this State and one or more registration |
13 | | is within another state, is a Class 4 felony. It is an |
14 | | affirmative defense to a violation of this Section that the |
15 | | individual has voted only once in any election for which the |
16 | | individual has more than one registration to vote.
