Creates the Legislative Accessibility Act. Provides that the General Assembly shall make all efforts to increase public accessibility to the General Assembly, and specifies the efforts to be included. Provides that the Secretary of State shall make all efforts to increase public accessibility to all State buildings. Provides specified accessibility requirements for the State Capitol Building and the James R. Thompson Center.

1 | | AN ACT concerning government.
|
2 | | Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
|
3 | | represented in the General Assembly:
|
4 | | Section 1. Short title. This Act may be cited as the |
5 | | Legislative Accessibility Act. |
6 | | Section 5. General Assembly accessibility.
|
7 | | (a) The General Assembly shall make all efforts to increase |
8 | | public accessibility to the General Assembly.
|
9 | | (b) Efforts to increase public accessibility of the General |
10 | | Assembly shall include, but not be limited to: (1) captioning |
11 | | of all television and live feed video events in the State |
12 | | Capitol Building; and (2) a formal process, advertised on the |
13 | | Illinois General Assembly website, to request and follow up on |
14 | | reasonable accommodations for people attending legislative |
15 | | events, including, but not limited to, all hearings and floor |
16 | | proceedings.

17 | | Section 10. State Building accessibility.

18 | | (a) The Secretary of State shall make all efforts to |
19 | | increase public accessibility to all State buildings.

20 | | (b) In addition to any upgrades which may be made under |
21 | | subsection (a), the State Capitol Building and the James R. |
22 | | Thompson Center shall, at a minimum:
