| 2 | | Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
|
| 3 | | represented in the General Assembly:
|
| 4 | | Section 5. The Counties Code is amended by changing Section |
| 5 | | 3-6028 as follows:
|

| 7 | | Sec. 3-6028. Delivery of papers and property to successor. |
| 8 | | When When a sheriff leaves his or her office he or she shall |
| 9 | | deliver
to his or her successor all process, paper and property |
| 10 | | attached
or levied upon except such as he or she is authorized |
| 11 | | by law to
retain, and also the possession of the court house |
| 12 | | and jail of
his or her county, and shall take from his or her |
| 13 | | successor a
receipt, specifying the papers and property so |
| 14 | | delivered over,
and the prisoners in custody, if any--which |
| 15 | | receipt shall be
sufficient indemnity to the person taking the |
| 16 | | same.
