2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to |
3 | | learn of the death of John "Jack" Lyle, who passed away on |
4 | | January 5, 2019; and
|
5 | | WHEREAS, Jack Lyle graduated from Englewood High School and |
6 | | was inspired by his mother, the singer Ernestine Lyle, who |
7 | | enrolled him in piano and violin lessons; and
|
8 | | WHEREAS, Jack Lyle was a member of the Tuskegee Airmen, the |
9 | | nation's first black fighter squadron, who were among the most |
10 | | skilled pilots during World War II; he named his plane |
11 | | "Natalie" in honor of his first wife and was credited with |
12 | | shooting down a German Messerchmitt; in 2007, President George |
13 | | W. Bush and Congress bestowed the Congressional Gold Medal on |
14 | | him and the other Tuskegee Airmen; and
|
15 | | WHEREAS, After the war, Jack Lyle worked as a Chicago |
16 | | police officer with the park district and operated a tree |
17 | | trimming company; and
|
18 | | WHEREAS, Jack Lyle enjoyed sailing on Lake Michigan; and
|
19 | | WHEREAS, Jack Lyle is survived by his wife of 37 years, |
20 | | Eunice, and his stepchildren, Cynthia Kincey, Kathy Holliday, |
