3 | | learn of the death of Richard P.
Frisbie on August 28, 2018 at |
4 | | the age of 91; and

5 | | WHEREAS, Richard Frisbie was born in Moline on November 27, |
6 | | 1926, the son of C.
Osborn and Pearl (Harrison) Frisbie; he |
7 | | grew up in the South Shore neighborhood of
Chicago and attended |
8 | | St. Philip Neri School, where he was a member of Boy Scout |
9 | | Troop 504,
played football, and was in the brass section of the |
10 | | orchestra; shortly after his 14th
birthday, he debuted on "Quiz |
11 | | Kids", the popular 1940s and 1950s radio and TV show; he later |
12 | | graduated from St. Ignatius High School, where he lettered in |
13 | | football; and
|
14 | | WHEREAS, Richard Frisbie attended the University of |
15 | | Chicago until he was drafted into the
U.S. Navy during World |
16 | | War II; after the war, he completed his undergraduate degree at |
17 | | the
University of Arizona; and
|
18 | | WHEREAS, After graduation, Richard Frisbie began his |
19 | | career as a reporter and assistant feature
editor for the |
20 | | "Chicago Daily News"; he met his wife of 68 years, Margery |
21 | | Rowbottom,
while covering a story for the "Daily News" about |
22 | | the well-known defected Soviet spy Elizabeth Bentley at

1 | | Chicago's Mundelein College, which had hired Bentley as a |
2 | | social studies teacher; he and
Margery married in 1950 and |
3 | | together raised eight children; and |
4 | | WHEREAS, Richard Frisbie left the "Daily News" and moved |
5 | | into the world of advertising,
eventually becoming the creative |
6 | | director of Campbell Ewald's Chicago office; in 1966, he opened
|
7 | | Richard Frisbie Communications, where he worked until he |
8 | | retired; he also was editor of
"Chicago Magazine" from 1971 |
9 | | until 1973 and a columnist for "Extension" magazine; and |
10 | | WHEREAS, Richard Frisbie, with his wife Margery, |
11 | | co-authored the "Do-It-Yourself-Parent" in
1963; he also |
12 | | authored "Family Fun and Recreation" in 1964, "How to Peel A |
13 | | Sour
Grape" in 1965, "Who Put the Bomb in Father Murphy's |
14 | | Chowder?" in 1968, and "Daily
Meditations for Busy Grandpas" in |
15 | | 1998; his 1975 book, "Basic Boat Building" was based on a

16 | | sailboat he built in his basement and garage and sailed for |
17 | | decades on Lake Michigan; and |
18 | | WHEREAS, Richard Frisbie was a 44-year member and a past |
19 | | president of the Arlington Heights Memorial Library
Board; he |
20 | | also served a term as president of the Illinois Center
for the |
21 | | Book and was a longtime board member and a past president of |
22 | | the Society of Midland Authors; and |

1 | | WHEREAS, Richard Frisbie, a true Renaissance man, was an |
2 | | avid amateur musician
and played mandolin, piano, and trumpet; |
3 | | he was also a technology enthusiast, often providing tech
help |
4 | | for family members; he was a noted outdoorsman and animal |
5 | | lover; additionally, both
he and Margery were longtime |
6 | | activists in the Catholic Church and promoted social justice

7 | | issues; and
|
8 | | WHEREAS, Richard Frisbie was preceded in death by his |
9 | | parents and his brother, William; and
|
10 | | WHEREAS, Richard Frisbie was the father of Felicity (Steve |
11 | | Sangenario) Frisbie, Anne
(Michael) Malone, Thomas (Dodie) |
