2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to |
3 | | learn of the death of Glen Dean Pittman M.D. of Springfield, |
4 | | who passed away on October 26, 2018; and
|
5 | | WHEREAS, Dr. Pittman was born in Casper, Wyoming to Fordyce |
6 | | and Charlotte Armbruster Pittman on December 29, 1937; he spent |
7 | | his college years at Northwestern University and graduated from |
8 | | Washington University School of Medicine in 1963; he completed |
9 | | his residency at Barnes Hospital in St. Louis and then proudly |
10 | | served in the United States Air Force at Maxwell Air Force Base |
11 | | in Montgomery, Alabama; he married Jeanne DeCosted at Central |
12 | | Presbyterian Church in Clayton, Missouri on December 7, 1963; |
13 | | and
|
14 | | WHEREAS, Dr. Pittman dedicated his career to Psychiatry; he |
15 | | moved to Springfield in 1969 and worked in private practice for |
16 | | 40 years; he served as Chairman of the Department of Psychiatry |
17 | | at Memorial Medical Center from 1975 until 1992; and
|
18 | | WHEREAS, Dr. Pittman was a member of many professional |
19 | | organizations and societies, including the Sangamon County |
20 | | Medical Society, where he served on the board of directors and |
21 | | was president; he was a member of the Illinois State Medical |
22 | | Society Ethics Committee for seven years; he also consulted |

1 | | with many Illinois mental health centers throughout his career, |
2 | | and most recently he served as a medical consultant for the |
3 | | Bureau of Disability Determination Services; he was passionate |
4 | | about mental health and received the Distinguished Life Fellow |
5 | | from the American Psychiatric Association in 2003; and
|
6 | | WHEREAS, Dr. Pittman was a member of Westminster |
7 | | Presbyterian Church for 48 years; he enjoyed singing in the |
8 | | choir, serving as an ordained elder and on committees, and |
9 | | tending the church gardens; he enjoyed gardening, traveling |
10 | | with friends and family, watching movies, and history, |
11 | | especially the life of Thomas Jefferson; his greatest joys were |
12 | | his family, church, work, and being at home; and
|
13 | | WHEREAS, Dr. Pittman is survived by his wife, Jeanne; his |
14 | | daughters, Susan (Jeff) Travis and Julie (Jim) McDonough; his |
15 | | son, David (Anna) Pittman, M.D.; his grandchildren, Elizabeth |
16 | | and Julia Travis and Charles, William, and Alex Pittman; his |
17 | | sisters-in-law, Suzanne (James) Breckenridge and Nancy (Fred) |
18 | | Niehaus; his nieces and nephews; and his many treasured |
19 | | friends; therefore, be it

20 | | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL |
21 | | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of |
22 | | Glen Dean Pittman M.D. and extend our sincere condolences to |
23 | | his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it |
