SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Mary Ellen Burg of Woodstock, who passed
4away on September 10, 2018; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Mary Ellen Burg was born in Woodstock to Harold
6and Mary Agnes (Bolger) Evans on January 17, 1934; she
7graduated from St. Mary High School in 1951 and married Joseph
8C. Burg at St. Mary Church in Woodstock on September 7, 1953;
9and
 
10    WHEREAS, Mary Ellen Burg worked at the First National Bank
11of Woodstock until she started a family; for many years she was
12a homemaker and focused on raising her children; she started
13working part time for the Welcome Wagon, introducing newcomers
14to the city of Woodstock; she later worked part-time at
15Montgomery Ward for several years; she then returned to banking
16for the First National Bank of Woodstock and continued there
17for nearly 40 years, retiring at age of 77; and
 
18    WHEREAS, Mary Ellen Burg was a long-time member of the St.
19Mary Mariola Club and volunteered her time for various school
20and church related projects; she enjoyed travel planning and
21organized many trips for friends and family; she was an avid
22sports fan, cheering for the Cubs, Notre Dame, Green Bay

1Packers, and most importantly, the sporting teams of her
2children and grandchildren; for many years, she and her husband
3owned a second home near the Wisconsin Dells where they enjoyed
4entertaining; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Mary Ellen Burg was preceded in death by her
6parents; her siblings; and her husband, Joseph; and
 
7    WHEREAS, Mary Ellen Burg is survived by her children, Mary
8Jo Burg, Marcia (Jeff) Porter, Gary (Wendy) Burg, Robert Burg,
9and Michelle (Curtis) Price; her grandchildren, Meagan (Andrew
10Ruehl) Porter, C. J. Price, Abigail Burg, Alivia Price, Kylie
11Burg, Madelyn Price, and Jason Burg; her great-grandchildren,
12Caden and Cambrie Ruehl; her sister-in-law, Susan Evans; her
13very special cousins, Al Evans and Mary Ann Sharp; and by 43
14nieces and nephews; therefore, be it
 
15    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL
16ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
17Mary Ellen Burg and extend our sincere condolences to her
18family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it
19further
 
20    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
21presented to the family of Mary Ellen Burg as an expression of
22our deepest sympathy.
