2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | ||||||
3 | learn of the death of Doris
Ivy, who passed away on June 29, | ||||||
4 | 2018; and
| ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, Doris Ivy's early years were spent in Alton, along
| ||||||
6 | the Mississippi River; her family moved to Chicago when she was
| ||||||
7 | seven; she attended Waller High School, now Lincoln Park
High | ||||||
8 | School; she married Arthur Lee Crume Sr. and then later married | ||||||
9 | Augusta Ivy in 1951; and
| ||||||
10 | WHEREAS, Doris Ivy had 10 children, Arthur, Diane, Loretta, | ||||||
11 | Patricia, Teresa, Andrew, Lawrence, Dennis, Leonard, and | ||||||
12 | Shirley; she was preceded in death by Dennis, Leonard, and | ||||||
13 | Shirley; her devotion to her family, children, and | ||||||
14 | grandchildren was unparalleled; she worked various jobs in the | ||||||
15 | service industry and also helped her husband in their many | ||||||
16 | flourishing business ventures on the West Side of Chicago, all | ||||||
17 | while raising her children; and
| ||||||
18 | WHEREAS, Doris Ivy received a kidney transplant in 1991; | ||||||
19 | this second chance at life inspired her brother, Secretary of
| ||||||
20 | State Jesse White, to become a strong advocate for organ and
| ||||||
21 | tissue donation and to make the Organ/Tissue Donor Registry a | ||||||
22 | priority of his administration; and |

1 | WHEREAS, Doris Ivy served as an election judge, and for
| ||||||
2 | more than 30 years, she volunteered to help coordinate a ham
| ||||||
3 | and turkey distribution for senior citizens, headed by | ||||||
4 | Secretary White; and | ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, Doris Ivy enjoyed singing at her church, Greater | ||||||
6 | St. John Missionary Baptist Church, and
organizing weekly bingo | ||||||
7 | games for seniors in the
residential high rise where she lived; | ||||||
8 | she was a gifted cook; and
| ||||||
9 | WHEREAS, Doris Ivy had a heart to serve and was a faithful | ||||||
10 | member of the William V. Banks Grand Lodge Order of the Eastern | ||||||
11 | Star for 25 years, where she was the Worthy Matron of the | ||||||
12 | Christ Love Chapter, leading women in bible study groups and | ||||||
13 | helping them develop leadership and life skills; and
| ||||||
14 | WHEREAS, Doris Ivy is survived by her brother, Secretary of
| ||||||
15 | State Jesse White; her sister, Cora; seven of her 10 children;
| ||||||
16 | 12 of her 17 grandchildren; 39 of her 40 great-grandchildren;
| ||||||
17 | and 12 great-great-grandchildren; therefore, be it
| ||||||
18 | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL | ||||||
19 | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of | ||||||
20 | Doris Ivy and extend our sincere condolences to her family, her | ||||||
21 | friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it further
