2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to |
3 | | learn of the death of David James "Dave" Cox of Moline, who |
4 | | passed away on May 4, 2018; and
|
5 | | WHEREAS, Dave Cox was born in Moline to David and Verna Cox |
6 | | on October 27, 1923; he graduated from Moline High School in |
7 | | 1941; he was a World War II veteran and proudly served in the |
8 | | United States Army Air Corp as a Propeller Specialist on the |
9 | | B-24 bombers; upon his return, he married Gloria Logan on |
10 | | October 26, 1947; and
|
11 | | WHEREAS, Following the war, Dave Cox spent three years as a |
12 | | catcher in the minor leagues; after ending his baseball career, |
13 | | he took part in establishing the Moline American Legion Post |
14 | | 246 baseball team and coached there for 20 years, as well as at |
15 | | other leagues throughout his career; while coaching, he became |
16 | | a territory scout for the Detroit Tigers and the St. Louis |
17 | | Cardinals and participated in signing several of his players to |
18 | | major league contracts; he also owned and operated Dave Cox |
19 | | General Contractor and built furniture, homes, and additions |
20 | | throughout the Quad-Cities; and

21 | | WHEREAS, Dave Cox was a dedicated member of The Reorganized |
22 | | Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and served 50 years |
