SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Douglas W. "Doug" Peterson of River Forest, who passed away on November 24, 2017 at the age of 75; and

WHEREAS, Doug Peterson was born in Chicago on December 7, 1941; he grew up on Olcott Avenue on the northwest side; his neighbors remembered him as "funny and considerate to all of the kids on the block"; he attended Immaculate Conception Grammar School, Notre Dame High School, and earned a degree in business administration from Marquette University in 1963; and

WHEREAS, Doug Peterson joined the Naval Reserve Officers' Training Corps and upon graduation was commissioned as an ensign; after serving active duty aboard the USS Washtenaw County in Yokosuka, Japan for two years, he completed his naval service with the rank of lieutenant; and

WHEREAS, Doug Peterson returned to the Chicago area and went to work for Allstate Insurance, first as an agent, and later in the management program; in 1977, he joined CNA Insurance as the Midwest Region Sales Manager; and

WHEREAS, Doug Peterson founded Peterson Insurance Agency in 1982, which later became Peterson and Associates Insurance; and

WHEREAS, Doug Peterson was an active member of the St. Giles Parish in Oak Park and the Forest Park Kiwanis Club; and

WHEREAS, Doug Peterson will be remembered for "crazy times" at the place in Wauwatosa, his good humor, honesty, and genuine care for others, as well as for being a man of tremendous faith who faced chronic obstructive pulmonary disease with calm and grace; and

WHEREAS, Doug Peterson was the beloved husband of Luanne Peterson; the devoted father of Scott, Craig (Heather), Mary (Kevin) Gibbons, and Anne Sullivan; the cherished grandfather of Grace, Thomas, Matthew, Ryan, and Owen Peterson, Clare, Patrick, Timothy, and Edmund Gibbons, and Joseph, Sean, and Colin Sullivan; the fond brother of Diane (Richard) Fox, Susan (Walter) Hutt, Gary (the late Janice) Peterson, Kathleen (Richard) Kowalczyk, and the late David (Barbara) Peterson; the dear brother-in-law of Mary Phillips and Margaret (the late Tom) Kenny; and the fond uncle and friend to many; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Douglas W. "Doug" Peterson and extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Doug Peterson as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
