2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | ||||||
3 | learn of the death of John K. Jones of Champaign, who passed | ||||||
4 | away February 26, 2018; and
| ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, John Jones was born in Champaign to Richard J. and | ||||||
6 | Mary E. Jones on August 18, 1950; he graduated first in his | ||||||
7 | class at Centennial High School in 1968; he attended Samford | ||||||
8 | University in Birmingham, Alabama for two years and then | ||||||
9 | transferred to the University of Illinois as an accountancy | ||||||
10 | undergraduate; he later studied in the Executive MBA program; | ||||||
11 | he married Sandra (Day) Kauffmann in Champaign on December 22, | ||||||
12 | 1984; and
| ||||||
13 | WHEREAS, John Jones worked at Prospect Foods in | ||||||
14 | treasury/finance operations; he was president of the Dewey | ||||||
15 | State Bank and most recently was business manager of First | ||||||
16 | United Methodist Church in Champaign; he also served as a | ||||||
17 | director of the Fisher National Bank; and | ||||||
18 | WHEREAS, John Jones was active in the First United | ||||||
19 | Methodist Church, where he served as assistant organist for | ||||||
20 | many years and was in the Chancel Ringers handbell choir for | ||||||
21 | over 35 years; he taught elementary Sunday school for almost 50 | ||||||
22 | years and was commissioned as a Stephen Minister; he served on |

1 | many church boards and committees, including church treasurer, | ||||||
2 | Board of Trustees (chair), Finance Committee (chair), Council | ||||||
3 | on Ministries (chair), and as assistant secretary-treasurer of | ||||||
4 | the Church Foundation Board; most recently, the church honored | ||||||
5 | him for his work in the business office upon the completion of | ||||||
6 | their 12th Ark for Heifer International; and | ||||||
7 | WHEREAS, John Jones was active with the PTA at Washington | ||||||
8 | and Franklin Middle School and served as president of the PTA | ||||||
9 | at Washington Elementary School; he was a board member and past | ||||||
10 | president of the Community Foundation of East Central Illinois | ||||||
11 | and received the Hearts of Gold award in 2017; and | ||||||
12 | WHEREAS, John Jones volunteered for Empty Tomb Inc. and | ||||||
13 | with Mission Match, where he served as treasurer; and
| ||||||
14 | WHEREAS, John Jones was active with the Champaign chapter | ||||||
15 | of the Alzheimer's Association and served on the board and as | ||||||
16 | treasurer for many years; he also served on the board of the | ||||||
17 | Cunningham Children's Home as chair of the Finance Committee | ||||||
18 | and as a member of the Farm Committee and the Permanent Funds | ||||||
19 | Committee; and

20 | WHEREAS, John Jones was preceded in death by his parents | ||||||
21 | and his brother, Jeffrey; and

1 | WHEREAS, John Jones is survived by his wife, Sandra; his | ||||||
2 | stepson, Brandon (Lori) Kauffmann; his daughter, MaryBess | ||||||
3 | (Jason) Gordon; his grandchildren, Faith and Justus Melchi and | ||||||
4 | Brooklyn and Westin Kauffmann; his siblings, Susan and Clyde; | ||||||
5 | and his grandpuppies, Jules and Earnest; therefore, be it
| ||||||
6 | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL | ||||||
7 | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of | ||||||
8 | John K. Jones, and extend our sincere condolences to his | ||||||
9 | family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it | ||||||
10 | further

11 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
12 | presented to the family of John Jones as an expression of our | ||||||
13 | deepest sympathy.
