2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to |
3 | | learn of the death of Carl Eugene "Gene" Shrader of Morton, who |
4 | | passed away on December 11, 2017; and
|
5 | | WHEREAS, Gene Shrader was born in Shannon City, Iowa to |
6 | | Carl and Cleo Shrader on June 20, 1936; he was the fifth of ten |
7 | | children; he graduated from Rock Island High School in 1954; he |
8 | | served in the United States Army as a cook in a variety of |
9 | | posts around the world, including Greenland; he married Aga |
10 | | Rita Nelson in Morton on September 29, 1963; and
|
11 | | WHEREAS, Gene Shrader began working at a local grocery |
12 | | store at age nine to help support his family; after he married, |
13 | | he returned to the grocery business and gained a reputation for |
14 | | hard work, honesty, and an uncanny business sense; he |
15 | | represented national products such as Green Giant, Gatorade, |
16 | | and Planters; he advanced to an executive leadership role with |
17 | | Calkins and Company, a nationwide food brokerage company; he |
18 | | retired as an owner of the company in 1992; he and his son |
19 | | started Parkway Auto Laundry Car Wash in Bloomington-Normal in |
20 | | 1998; and
|
21 | | WHEREAS, After his retirement, Gene Shrader became active |
22 | | in the banking industry and was a member of the Morton |
|

1 | | Community Bank board, a position from which he recently |
2 | | retired; he also served as a Morton City Councilman and as a |
3 | | deacon at New Castle Bible Church; and
|
4 | | WHEREAS, Gene Shrader enjoyed reading, playing golf, |
5 | | softball, and euchre, attending cookouts, and traveling with |
6 | | family and friends; he especially enjoyed his annual fishing |
7 | | trip with friends to remote locations in Canada; he was |
8 | | committed to his faith and was a member of New Castle Bible |
9 | | Church and traveled the world on mission trips; he was known |
10 | | for his wide-ranging generosity; and
|
11 | | WHEREAS, Gene Shrader was preceded in death by his parents; |
12 | | five of his brothers; and one of his sisters; and
|
13 | | WHEREAS, Gene Shrader is survived by his wife of 54 years, |
14 | | Aga Rita; his children, Kelle (Mark) Ashton, Darin (Melissa) |
15 | | Shrader, and Amanda Shrader; his grandchildren, Caleb (Erica) |
16 | | Ashton, Caysie Ashton, Josiah Ashton, and Haiven Ashton; his |
17 | | sisters, Deloris (William) Fox, Barb (Larry) Osterhagen; his |
18 | | brother, Emmett (Carla) Shrader; his many nieces and nephews; |
19 | | and his many friends; therefore, be it

20 | | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL |
21 | | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of |
22 | | Carl Eugene "Gene" Shrader and extend our sincere condolences |
