|
2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to |
3 | | learn of the death of Douglas R. McCumber of Tuscola, who |
4 | | passed away on September 26, 2017; and
|
5 | | WHEREAS, Doug McCumber was born in Urbana to Raymond R. and |
6 | | Kathryn M. Ellis McCumber on October 13, 1949; he graduated |
7 | | from Tuscola High School in 1967; as a student, he was elected |
8 | | co-captain of the basketball team and was a member of National |
9 | | Honor Society; he then attended the University of Illinois, |
10 | | where he was a member of the Delta Sigma Epsilon professional |
11 | | fraternity and a James Scholar; he earned a Bachelor of Science |
12 | | in Business Administration and graduated with high honors in |
13 | | 1972; after graduation, he served in the Illinois National |
14 | | Guard; he married Rhonda L. Gensler on July 21, 1979; and
|
15 | | WHEREAS, Doug McCumber began his career at the Continental |
16 | | Illinois National Bank in Chicago; he then joined the Tuscola |
17 | | National Bank and served as Vice President; he then became |
18 | | President and Chairman of the Board of First National Bank of |
19 | | Douglas County, now known as First Mid-Illinois Bank & Trust; |
20 | | in November 2000, he joined The First National Bank of Arcola |
21 | | as President & Director and served there until his retirement |
22 | | on June 30, 2012; and

1 | | WHEREAS, Doug McCumber served as President of the Tuscola |
2 | | Rotary Club, Tuscola Chamber of Commerce, and the Tuscola |
3 | | Community Development Corporation; he was a founding director |
4 | | and served ten years as Treasurer of the Tuscola Community |
5 | | Foundation; he was a Little League and Senior League Baseball |
6 | | Division coach, Biddy Basketball coach, girl's softball coach, |
7 | | and Treasurer of the Tuscola Junior Football League; he was |
8 | | known as "the Voice of the Warriors" and served 43 years as the |
9 | | field announcer for the Tuscola Warrior football program; he |
10 | | was named Grand Marshal of the 1987 Tuscola High School |
11 | | Homecoming parade; in recognition of his business |
12 | | achievements, he was elected into the Tuscola High School Hall |
13 | | of Fame in 2010; and |
14 | | WHEREAS, Doug McCumber was a devoted member of the Tuscola |
15 | | United Methodist Church, where he participated in Bible study |
16 | | and served on the Board of Trustees, Capital Stewardship |
17 | | campaigns, and as Chairman of the Finance Committee; in 1986, |
18 | | he was recognized as "Tuscolian of the Year"; he was a member |
19 | | of the Tuscola Rotary Club for 45 years and was awarded the |
20 | | Paul Harris Fellow recognition; he was named Rotarian of the |
21 | | Year in 1992 and 2009; the Tuscola Masonic Lodge #332 presented |
22 | | him with the Community Builder Award; he was a lifetime member |
23 | | of the University of Illinois Alumni Association and was |
24 | | honored to be a member of the University of Illinois |
25 | | President's Council and the I Fund's Olympian Club; and |

1 | | WHEREAS, Doug McCumber was an avid fan of Illini and |
2 | | Tuscola Warrior sports programs; he was a lifelong fan of the |
3 | | St. Louis Cardinals; he loved to spend time with his family, |
4 | | travel, and attend sporting events; he enjoyed helping others; |
5 | | and
|
6 | | WHEREAS, Doug McCumber was preceded in death by his father; |
7 | | and
|
8 | | WHEREAS, Doug McCumber is survived by his wife, Rhonda; his |
9 | | son, Matthew McCumber; his daughter, Marissa (Matt) Franks; his |
10 | | mother, Kathryn McCumber; his brother, Thom (Teri) McCumber; |
11 | | his sister, Kathy (Larry) Glabe; and his grandsons, Lane, Colt, |
12 | | and Clay Franks; therefore, be it

13 | | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL |
14 | | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of |
15 | | Douglas R. McCumber, and extend our sincere condolences to his |
16 | | family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it |
17 | | further

18 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be |
19 | | presented to the family of Doug McCumber as an expression of |
20 | | our deepest sympathy.
