|
2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to |
3 | | learn of the death of Leamon Kemp "Lee/PawPaw" Jessup of |
4 | | Mahomet, who passed away on August 20, 2017; and
|
5 | | WHEREAS, Leamon Jessup was born in Urbana to Annie L. and |
6 | | Bobby Gene Jessup on September 9, 1950; he graduated from |
7 | | Illinois State University with a Bachelor of Science in |
8 | | Education and a Master of Science in Educational |
9 | | Administration; and
|
10 | | WHEREAS, Leamon Jessup began his teaching career in the |
11 | | Normal Community School District, where he was also a football |
12 | | coach, a wrestling coach and an Illinois High School |
13 | | Association wrestling official; and |
14 | | WHEREAS, Leamon Jessup and his family moved to Mahomet in |
15 | | 1978 when he took the principal's position at the Seymour Grade |
16 | | School; when Mahomet and Seymour consolidated, he was moved to |
17 | | Lincoln Trail Elementary School, where he retired in 2005 as |
18 | | principal; and |
19 | | WHEREAS, Leamon Jessup believed in community service and |
20 | | sought out ways to serve others; he was elected to the Mahomet |
21 | | Village Board; he held leadership positions in nearly every |

1 | | organization with which he was involved; he founded Lee J's |
2 | | Firehouse Golf and Arcades and Tropical Sno to provide a safe |
3 | | place for his kids to work and community children to play; he |
4 | | donated the Tropical Sno franchise to the Mahomet Area Youth |
5 | | Club; and |
6 | | WHEREAS, Leamon Jessup dedicated over 40 years of service |
7 | | as a volunteer firefighter with the Bloomington Township and |
8 | | Cornbelt Fire Protection District, retiring in April 2017 as a |
9 | | trustee; he was an instrumental and dedicated member of the |
10 | | Mahomet Area Youth Club's Executive Board and a member of the |
11 | | Mahomet United Methodist Church; he was a Freemason and a |
12 | | member of Mahomet Lodge 220; and
|
13 | | WHEREAS, Leamon Jessup worked hard and played harder, and |
14 | | rarely missed an opportunity to enjoy a practical joke; his |
15 | | smile and laughter were infectious; he was an avid outdoorsman |
16 | | and enjoyed hunting and fishing and spending time with his |
17 | | children and grandchildren; and
|
18 | | WHEREAS, Leamon Jessup was preceded in death by his father, |
19 | | Bobby Gene Jessup, and his brother, Robert G. Jessup; and
|
20 | | WHEREAS, Leamon Jessup is survived by his mother, Annie |
21 | | Jessup; his wife, Beverly Jessup; his sons, Jeremy (Nichole), |
22 | | Joshua, and Joel (Katie); his daughter, Annie Jane Anglin |

1 | | (Tyler); his stepchildren, Jacquie Guevara (Matthew), Megan |
2 | | Berry (Lance), and Jake Foley; and nine grandchildren; |
3 | | therefore, be it

4 | | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL |
5 | | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of |
6 | | Leamon Kemp "Lee/PawPaw" Jessup, and extend our sincere |
7 | | condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved |
8 | | him; and be it further

9 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be |
10 | | presented to the family of Leamon Jessup as an expression of |
11 | | our deepest sympathy.
