|
2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to |
3 | | learn of the death of John Joseph Case of Naperville, who |
4 | | passed away on June 29, 2017; and
|
5 | | WHEREAS, John Case was born in Lisle Township to John Peter |
6 | | and Esther M. (Penfold) Case on May 8, 1930; after his family |
7 | | moved from York Center to a farm in Naperville, he transferred |
8 | | from St. Joan of Arc School to Saints Peter and Paul School; he |
9 | | graduated from Naperville High School in 1948, where he held a |
10 | | track record for running the mile which was not broken for |
11 | | decades; he graduated from Iowa State University in 1952, where |
12 | | he was captain of the track and cross country teams and ran a |
13 | | 4:11 mile on cinders; he was a member of the Sigma Nu |
14 | | Fraternity; he married Joyce Burg at Saints Peter and Paul |
15 | | Catholic church in Naperville on May 30, 1953; and |
16 | | WHEREAS, John Case served as a communications officer in |
17 | | the United States Air Force during the Korean War from 1952 to |
18 | | 1953; he was a member of the Air National Guard Communication |
19 | | Squadron until he retired as a major in 1978; and
|
20 | | WHEREAS, John Case worked for the PAG agriculture business |
21 | | until its closing in the 1960s; he then bought the plant and |
22 | | started Agrinetics which specialized in the production of |
|

1 | | hybrid seed corn; his business employed thousands of young |
2 | | people in Naperville with detasseling and roguing summer jobs; |
3 | | and
|
4 | | WHEREAS, John Case served in many charitable and civic |
5 | | capacities, including Republican Precinct Committeeman, Lisle |
6 | | Township Supervisor, temporary chairman of DuPage County, |
7 | | DuPage County Forest Preserve President, Benet Academy School |
8 | | Board President, Bank of Sugar Grove President, North Central |
9 | | College Board of Directors, PACE Chairman and board president |
10 | | and Knights of Columbus member; he also served on the Saints |
11 | | Peter and Paul Parish Council and School Board and was an usher |
12 | | for many years; he never missed a question from Trivial Pursuit |
13 | | in the history, geography, or political science categories; and
|
14 | | WHEREAS, John Case was preceded in death by his parents and |
15 | | his siblings, Jean, Carol, Joseph, Donald, Joan, Lois, Jane |
16 | | Koller, and Constance Lally; and
|
17 | | WHEREAS, John Case is survived by his wife, Joyce; his |
18 | | children, John Peter (Rose), Sara (Guy) Tenini, Kathryn (Clyde) |
19 | | Shields, Matthew Paul (Angie), and Marilyn (Mike) Gallagher; 14 |
20 | | grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and |
21 | | nephews; therefore, be it

1 | | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of |
2 | | John Joseph Case, and extend our sincere condolences to his |
3 | | family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it |
4 | | further

5 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be |
6 | | presented to the family of John Case as an expression of our |
7 | | deepest sympathy.
