2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | ||||||
3 | learn of the death of James Henry Augustine of Livingston, who | ||||||
4 | passed away on June 6, 2017; and | ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, James Augustine was born in Litchfield to Henry J. | ||||||
6 | "Hank" and Margariete M. (Kreuter) Augustine on April 9, 1942; | ||||||
7 | he graduated from Livingston High School and Southern Illinois | ||||||
8 | University in Carbondale;
he married Shirley Hettinger at the | ||||||
9 | Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Livingston; and
| ||||||
10 | WHEREAS, James Augustine served six years with the Illinois | ||||||
11 | Secretary of State Police; from 1968 to 1993, he taught history | ||||||
12 | at Livingston High School, where he also coached baseball; and
| ||||||
13 | WHEREAS, James Augustine was active in Democratic | ||||||
14 | politics, serving on the Madison County Board, the Olive | ||||||
15 | Township Board of Trustees, and as a Democratic Precinct | ||||||
16 | Committeeman for over 40 years; he was a historian, a student, | ||||||
17 | and expert on the life and career of Civil War General T.J. | ||||||
18 | "Stonewall" Jackson; and | ||||||
19 | WHEREAS, James Augustine was a member of Laborers Local | ||||||
20 | #179, the Livingston Fire Department, the Slovak Society, the | ||||||
21 | Franklin Pierce Brigade, the Knights of Columbus, the Loyal |

1 | Order of Moose, and the Fraternal Order of Eagles; he was also | ||||||
2 | a member, lector, usher, and retreat captain of Sacred Heart | ||||||
3 | Catholic Church in Livingston; and
| ||||||
4 | WHEREAS, James Augustine was a player and alumni of the | ||||||
5 | Livingston 3M "BlueSeals" baseball team and wore the now | ||||||
6 | retired #11; he served as commissioner of the 3M Amateur | ||||||
7 | Baseball League for many years; he was also a fan of the | ||||||
8 | Atlanta Braves and Dallas Cowboys; and | ||||||
9 | WHEREAS, James Augustine was affectionately known as J.H. | ||||||
10 | Augustine, Mr. Augustine, Coach Augustine, Mr. Democrat, and | ||||||
11 | Cowboy Jim; and
| ||||||
12 | WHEREAS, James Augustine was preceded in death by his | ||||||
13 | parents; his sister, Nancy Augustine; and his brother, George | ||||||
14 | Driscoll Augustine; and
| ||||||
15 | WHEREAS, James Augustine is survived by his children, Amy | ||||||
16 | (Bryce) Rupert, Jamie (James) Herendeen, and Driscoll "Cole" | ||||||
17 | (Nida) Augustine; his grandchildren, Aubry, Madelyn, Layne, | ||||||
18 | Jace, and Jolee; and his expected grandson due in July to Cole | ||||||
19 | and Nida; therefore, be it

20 | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL | ||||||
21 | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of |

1 | James Henry Augustine, and extend our sincere condolences to | ||||||
2 | his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it | ||||||
3 | further | ||||||
4 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||

6 | our deepest sympathy.
