3 | | learn of the death of Levon Demerdjian of Oak Park, who passed |
4 | | away on May 17, 2017; and

5 | | WHEREAS, Levon Demerdjian was born in Beirut, Lebanon, |
6 | | where his family settled after fleeing the Armenian genocide; |
7 | | as a teenager, he made his way
to the United States through |
8 | | Canada, intent on furthering his education by enrolling in an |
9 | | engineering program at what is
now the University of Illinois |
10 | | at Chicago; and

11 | | WHEREAS, Levon Demerdjian soon teamed up with his brother, |
12 | | Arsen, to run
authentic Armenian restaurants; the first of the |
13 | | restaurants - all called Sayat Nova - was on Sheridan
Road near |
14 | | Loyola University's Lake Shore Campus; the second still |
15 | | operates on Ohio Street off Michigan Avenue; the third in Des |
16 | | Plaines; and

17 | | WHEREAS, Levon Demerdjian first venture was the Auto Grill, |
18 | | which opened in 1964 and operated for two years; and
|
19 | | WHEREAS, Levon Demerdjian was preceded in death by his |
20 | | wife, Marjorie, and his brother, Arsen Demirdjian; and
