|
2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to |
3 | | learn of the death of John R. Schweighart of Villa Grove, who |
4 | | passed away on February 21, 2017; and
|
5 | | WHEREAS, John Schweighart was born to Charles and Ida |
6 | | (Mammoser) Schweighart on February 3, 1932 and raised on a farm |
7 | | west of Pesotum; he graduated from Tolono High School, where he |
8 | | was a multi-sport athlete, and married Ruth E. Schumacher at |
9 | | St. Joseph Catholic Church in Pesotum on May 3, 1952; and
|
10 | | WHEREAS, John Schweighart farmed his entire career; he and |
11 | | his wife resided on a farm west of Pesotum until 1958 when they |
12 | | moved to a farm southeast of Camargo and farmed there until |
13 | | their retirement in 1994 after bringing in 52 harvests; and
|
14 | | WHEREAS, John Schweighart served Sacred Heart Church in |
15 | | many capacities, including as a Trustee; he was a member of the |
16 | | Villa Grove Rotary, the Knights of Columbus, and the Tri City |
17 | | Country Club; he was a member of the Villa Grove School Board |
18 | | for nine years, six as President; he was on the Villa Grove |
19 | | Farmer's Elevator Board for 12 years, nine as President; he |
20 | | served on the board of directors of the First National Bank, |
21 | | the Villa Grove State Bank, and the Villa Grove State Bank |
22 | | Holding Company, beginning in 1977, retiring in 2015; and |

1 | | WHEREAS, John Schweighart played fast-pitch softball in |
2 | | his youth, competing at the State level and playing on teams in |
3 | | Champaign, Douglas, and Macon counties; he once struck out 22 |
4 | | batters in a 12-inning game; he also coached Little League |
5 | | Baseball and fast-pitch softball; he was an accomplished bridge |
6 | | player and enjoyed sharing his knowledge of the game with |
7 | | others; a recent honor was being inducted as an honorary member |
8 | | of the Villa Grove Alumni Hall of Fame; and
|
9 | | WHEREAS, John Schweighart was preceded in death by his |
10 | | parents; his stepmother, Clara Schweighart; and his siblings, |
11 | | Mildred Kleiss, Bernard Schweighart, and Chuck Schweighart; |
12 | | and
|
13 | | WHEREAS, John Schweighart is survived by his wife, Ruth; |
14 | | his children, Roger (Karen) Schweighart, Peggy (Bill) Mayer, |
15 | | and Ken (Beneta) Schweighart; his grandchildren, John (Amber) |
16 | | Schweighart, Matthew (Jacque) Schweighart, Michelle Mayer, |
17 | | Greg (Jodi) Schweighart, Eric (Ashley) Schweighart, and Katie |
18 | | (Steve) Peternell; his great-grandchildren, Ella, Will, |
19 | | Caroline, Andrew, Josie, Luke, Henry, and Isabelle; his |
20 | | siblings, Bill (Phyllis) Schweighart, and Bernice Wilhelm; his |
21 | | sister-in-law, Shirley Schweighart; and many nieces and |
22 | | nephews; therefore, be it

1 | | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL |
2 | | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of |
3 | | John R. Schweighart, and extend our sincere condolences to his |
4 | | family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it |
5 | | further

6 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be |
7 | | presented to the family of John Schweighart as an expression of |
8 | | our deepest sympathy.
