2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to |
3 | | learn of the death of James M. "Whitey" Hansen of Rock Island, |
4 | | who passed away on January 2, 2017; and
|
5 | | WHEREAS, James Hansen was born in Brooklyn, New York to |
6 | | John and Elizabeth Kelly Hansen on October 11, 1924; his |
7 | | parents died at a young age and he and his twin brother, Joe, |
8 | | were raised in an orphanage in upstate New York; he married |
9 | | Catherine Isabelle Kirchner in St. Patrick, Missouri on July 6, |
10 | | 1945; and
|
11 | | WHEREAS, James Hansen proudly served with the United States |
12 | | Army Corps. of Engineers during World War II; after his |
13 | | discharge from the Army, he and his family settled in the Quad |
14 | | Cities; he worked as a truck driver and retired from Churchill |
15 | | Truck Lines in 1982; and
|
16 | | WHEREAS, James Hansen was a retired member of the Teamsters |
17 | | Local No. 371, the Milan American Legion Post 569, and the Rock |
18 | | Island Moose Lodge; he was a lifetime member of the Rock Island |
19 | | Boat Club, and a member of St. Pius X Catholic Church in Rock |
20 | | Island; and
|
21 | | WHEREAS, James Hansen was an avid fisherman; he also |

1 | | enjoyed dancing, racquetball, and playing euchre; he loved to |
2 | | go out and share a hearty breakfast with his family; he would |
3 | | often take his sons camping and fishing in Missouri; he |
4 | | traveled to Florida many times to visit his twin brother, Joe, |
5 | | and go deep sea fishing; he would also take weekend fishing |
6 | | trips with his brother-in-law, Bill Hungate; he could often be |
7 | | found tinkering on treasures he found at garage sales, or |
8 | | lending a hand to one of his many friends; and
|
9 | | WHEREAS, James Hansen was preceded in death by his son, |
10 | | James B. Hansen, two grandchildren, and all five of his |
11 | | siblings; and
|
12 | | WHEREAS, James Hansen is survived by his wife, Catherine |
13 | | Isabelle Hansen; his children, Joan Holgate, Joe (Jean) Hansen, |
14 | | John (Bonnie) Hansen, Robert Hansen, and his foster-son, Devin |
15 | | (Lisa) Hansen; his nine grandchildren, Kenneth Holgate, Thomas |
16 | | Holgate, Patricia Holgate-Norris, Melinda Leenerts, Elizabeth |
17 | | Holgate, Tamara Robinson, Pamela Barrios, Christopher Hansen, |
18 | | and Katy Hansen; his 22 great-grandchildren, three |
19 | | great-great-grandchildren, and four stepgrandsons; therefore, |
20 | | be it

22 | | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we, along with his |
23 | | family and friends, mourn the passing of James M. "Whitey" |
