2 | WHEREAS, It is highly fitting that the Illinois General | ||||||
3 | Assembly pays honor and respect to the truly great individuals | ||||||
4 | who served our country and in doing so have gone above and | ||||||
5 | beyond the call of duty to take part in truly heroic tasks; and
| ||||||
6 | WHEREAS, United States Marine Corps Lance Corporal Alec | ||||||
7 | Catherwood was born May 6, 1991 in Heilbronn, Germany; his | ||||||
8 | parents were Kirk and Gretchen Catherwood; and
| ||||||
9 | WHEREAS, Lance Cpl. Alec Catherwood was a 2009 graduate of | ||||||
10 | Byron High School and a member of the Future Farmers of America | ||||||
11 | as a sentry; he was also a Boy Scout and had a black belt in Tae | ||||||
12 | Kwon Do; and

13 | WHEREAS, Lance Cpl. Alec Catherwood enjoyed athletics, | ||||||
14 | four-wheeling, mudding in his truck, shooting his shotgun, and | ||||||
15 | spending time with his family, his fiancee, and his friends; | ||||||
16 | and
| ||||||
17 | WHEREAS, Lance Cpl. Alec Catherwood was assigned to the 3rd | ||||||
18 | Battalion, 5th Marine Regiment, 1st Marine Division of the I | ||||||
19 | Marine Expeditionary Force in Camp Pendleton, California; he | ||||||
20 | passed away on October 14, 2010 while conducting combat | ||||||
21 | operations in Helmand Province, Afghanistan; and

1 | WHEREAS, Lance Cpl. Alec Catherwood earned many personal | ||||||
2 | service awards, including the Purple Heart, Combat Action | ||||||
3 | Ribbon, National Defense Service Medal, Global War on Terrorism | ||||||
4 | Service Medal, and Korean Defense Service Medal; and | ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, Lance Cpl. Alec Catherwood is survived by his | ||||||
6 | parents; his sister, Mikaela (Lance Cpl. Matthew, USMC) | ||||||
7 | Montgomery; his fiancee, Hailey Patrick; his maternal | ||||||
8 | grandparents, Donald and Mary Ernst; and many aunts, uncles, | ||||||
9 | and cousins; therefore, be it

10 | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL | ||||||
11 | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES | ||||||
12 | CONCURRING HEREIN, that we designate the portion of Illinois | ||||||
13 | Route 72 from the south side of the bridge in Byron to the | ||||||
14 | Ogle/DeKalb County line as Lance Cpl. Alec E. Catherwood | ||||||
15 | Memorial Road in honor of Lance Corporal Alec Catherwood and | ||||||
16 | his service to our nation; and be it further

17 | RESOLVED, That the Illinois Department of Transportation | ||||||
18 | is requested to erect at suitable locations, consistent with | ||||||
19 | State and federal regulations, appropriate plaques or signs | ||||||
20 | giving notice of the name of Lance Cpl. Alec E. Catherwood | ||||||
21 | Memorial Road; and be it further |
