SYNOPSIS AS INTRODUCED:

Amends the Abused and Neglected Child Reporting Act. Provides that law enforcement officers, in an effort to assist the Department of Children and Family Services in child protective investigations in its response to reports of child abuse or neglect, must, upon request of a child protection investigator, accompany the child protection investigator. Provides that it is the responsibility of the accompanying officer to accompany the child protection investigator to any other police jurisdiction that is outside the accompanying officer's primary jurisdiction. Amends the Department of State Police Law of the Civil Administrative Code of Illinois, the Counties Code, and the Illinois Municipal Code making conforming changes.

AN ACT concerning children.

Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois, represented in the General Assembly:

Section 5. The Department of State Police Law of the Civil Administrative Code of Illinois is amended by adding Section 2605-433 as follows:

Sec. 2605-433. Child protection investigator assistance. State police officers must, upon request, assist a child protection investigator as provided in Section 7.4b of the Abused and Neglected Child Reporting Act.

Section 10. The Counties Code is amended by adding Section 3-6015.5 as follows:

Sec. 3-6015.5. Child protection investigator assistance. Deputies, auxiliary officers, or county corrections officers must, upon request, assist a child protection investigator as provided in Section 7.4b of the Abused and Neglected Child Reporting Act.

Section 15. The Illinois Municipal Code is amended by adding Section 11-1-2.2 as follows:

Sec. 11-1-2.2. Child protection investigator assistance. Police officers must, upon request, assist a child protection investigator as provided in Section 7.4b of the Abused and Neglected Child Reporting Act.

Section 20. The Abused and Neglected Child Reporting Act is amended by adding Section 7.4b as follows:

Sec. 7.4b. Law enforcement investigation assistance. Law enforcement officers, in an effort to assist the Department in child protective investigations in its response to reports of child abuse or neglect, must, upon request of a child protection investigator, accompany the child protection investigator. It is the responsibility of the accompanying officer to accompany the child protection investigator to any other police jurisdiction that is outside the accompanying officer's primary jurisdiction. As used in this Section, "law enforcement officer" has the meaning given to that term in Section 5 of the Infectious Disease Testing Act.
