1 | | AN ACT concerning local government.
|
2 | | Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
|
3 | | represented in the General Assembly:
|
4 | | Section 5. The Metropolitan Pier and Exposition Authority |
5 | | Act is amended by changing Section 14 as follows: |

7 | | Sec. 14. Board; compensation. The governing and |
8 | | administrative body of the Authority shall be a
board known as |
9 | | the Metropolitan Pier and Exposition Board. On the effective |
10 | | date of this amendatory Act of the 96th General Assembly, the |
11 | | Trustee shall assume the duties and powers of the Board for a |
12 | | period of 18 months or until the Board is fully constituted, |
13 | | whichever is later. Any action requiring Board approval shall |
14 | | be deemed approved by the Board if the Trustee approves the |
15 | | action in accordance with Section 14.5. Beginning the first |
16 | | Monday of the month occurring 18 months after the effective |
17 | | date of this amendatory Act of the 96th General Assembly, the |
18 | | Board shall consist of 9 members. The Governor shall appoint 4 |
19 | | members to the Board, subject to the advice and consent of the |
20 | | Senate. The Mayor shall appoint 4 members to the Board. At |
21 | | least one member of the Board shall represent the interests of |
22 | | labor and at least one member of the Board shall represent the |
23 | | interests of the convention industry. A majority of the members |

1 | | appointed by the Governor and Mayor shall appoint a ninth |
2 | | member to serve as the chairperson. The Board shall be fully |
3 | | constituted when a quorum has been appointed. The members of
|
4 | | the board shall be individuals of generally recognized ability |
5 | | and
integrity. No member of the Board may be (i) an
officer or |
6 | | employee of, or a member of a board, commission or authority |
7 | | of,
the State, any unit of local government or any school |
8 | | district or (ii) a person who served on the Board prior to the |
9 | | effective date of this amendatory Act of the 96th General |
10 | | Assembly. |
11 | | Of the initial members appointed by the Governor, one shall |
12 | | serve for a term expiring June 1, 2013, one shall serve for a |
13 | | term expiring June 1, 2014, one shall serve for a term expiring |
14 | | June 1, 2015, and one shall serve for a term expiring June 1, |
15 | | 2016, as determined by the Governor. Of the initial members |
16 | | appointed by the Mayor, one shall serve for a term expiring |
17 | | June 1, 2013, one shall serve for a term expiring June 1, 2014, |
18 | | one shall serve for a term expiring June 1, 2015, and one shall |
19 | | serve for a term expiring June 1, 2016, as determined by the |
20 | | Mayor. The initial chairperson appointed by the Board shall |
21 | | serve a term for a term expiring June 1, 2015. Successors shall |
22 | | be appointed to 4-year terms. No person may be appointed to |
23 | | more than 3 2 terms. |
24 | | Members of the Board shall serve without compensation, but |
25 | | shall be reimbursed for actual
expenses incurred by them in the |
