|
2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of |
3 | | Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Chicago |
4 | | Police Officer Samuel Jimenez, who was killed in the line of |
5 | | duty on November 19, 2018 at the age of 28; and |
6 | | WHEREAS, Officer Jimenez grew up in the Edison Park |
7 | | neighborhood of the City of Chicago and built a family of |
8 | | Illinoisans; he, his wife Crystal, and their three young |
9 | | children regularly attended Mass at the Chapel of St. Joseph at |
10 | | the Shrine of Our Lady of Guadalupe in Des Plaines; and
|
11 | | WHEREAS, From his childhood onward, Officer Jimenez |
12 | | expressed a desire to build a life in law enforcement; he |
13 | | joined the Chicago Police Department in 2017 in full knowledge |
14 | | of the current state of public safety in America's |
15 | | third-largest city; in November of 2018, he had served his time |
16 | | of probation and had pinned on the star of an officer of the |
17 | | department; and
|
18 | | WHEREAS, Officer Jimenez was assigned to the 2nd Police |
19 | | District (Wentworth); he was responding to a radio call of |
20 | | shots fired on Chicago's South Side around the emergency room |
21 | | of Mercy Hospital; a gunman had begun to kill professionals and |
22 | | trainees in and around the hospital; and

1 | | WHEREAS, Officer Jimenez ran into the line of fire to |
2 | | defend the hospital and save the lives of civilians, in line |
3 | | with the highest traditions of the American police; and |
4 | | WHEREAS, As a consequence of this split-second decision, |
5 | | Officer Jimenez is End of Watch (EOW); and |
6 | | WHEREAS, Mourners at the funeral mass of Officer Jimenez |
7 | | included Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel, Illinois Governor Bruce |
8 | | Rauner, and main celebrant Cardinal Blase Cupich of the |
9 | | Archdiocese of Chicago; and
|
10 | | WHEREAS, Officer Jimenez leaves behind his wife, Crystal |
11 | | Jimenez, and three children, daughters, Ebony and Angelina, and |
12 | | son, Julian, who now have memories to remind them of what |
13 | | heroism in action looks like; therefore, be it
|
14 | | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE |
15 | | HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we |
16 | | mourn the loss, while on duty, of Officer Samuel Jimenez of the |
17 | | Chicago Police Department; and be it further |
18 | | RESOLVED, That when we pass by the Illinois Police Officers |
19 | | Memorial, which stands adjacent to the door we use to enter and |
20 | | leave the Illinois State Capitol each day we are in session, we |

1 | | will think of Officer Jimenez and his fellow Illinois police |
2 | | officers who have paid the ultimate price of service to their |
3 | | fellow citizens; and be it further |
4 | | RESOLVED, That we recognize that the police officers of |
5 | | Illinois put their lives on the line every day and every night |
6 | | for the safety and security of their loved ones and their |
7 | | fellow citizens; and be it further

8 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be |
9 | | presented to Crystal Jimenez, as an act of sorrowful memory of |
10 | | and homage to the heroism of Officer Jimenez, a peace officer |
11 | | and a defender of Chicago and of the State of Illinois.
