2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | ||||||
3 | Representatives wish to congratulate State Rep. Steven | ||||||
4 | Andersson on his retirement and recognize his years of service | ||||||
5 | to the State of Illinois; and
| ||||||
6 | WHEREAS, Rep. Andersson was born in Midlothian on August | ||||||
7 | 15, 1964; he and his wife, Nanette,
have been residents of | ||||||
8 | Geneva for 26 years; they have been married for 31 years and | ||||||
9 | have two children,
Matthew and Sarah; and
| ||||||
10 | WHEREAS, Rep. Andersson earned his bachelor's degree from | ||||||
11 | Northern Illinois University in 1986 and his Juris Doctor
from | ||||||
12 | Northern Illinois University in 1992, where he graduated Magna | ||||||
13 | Cum Laude; and | ||||||
14 | WHEREAS, Rep. Andersson is a small business owner and has | ||||||
15 | been a licensed attorney for more than two
decades; he is a | ||||||
16 | partner at the law firms of Mickey, Wilson, Weiler, Renzi and | ||||||
17 | Andersson, P.C. and the
Elder Law Center, P.C.; and
| ||||||
18 | WHEREAS, Rep. Andersson has a long-standing history of | ||||||
19 | serving the local community; he
served as a trustee and | ||||||
20 | treasurer on the Geneva Library District Board in addition to | ||||||
21 | being a Republican
Precinct Committeeman for Geneva's 3rd |

1 | Precinct; and | ||||||
2 | WHEREAS, Eager to continue his public service, Rep. | ||||||
3 | Andersson was sworn in to serve the 65th Legislative District | ||||||
4 | of
the Illinois House of Representative on January 2, 2015; and | ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, Rep. Andersson has been a strong advocate for | ||||||
6 | mental health awareness during his service in
the General | ||||||
7 | Assembly, backing legislation to support mental health issues | ||||||
8 | while promoting local
initiatives in his 65th district | ||||||
9 | community; and | ||||||
10 | WHEREAS, In a massive undertaking, Rep. Andersson worked to | ||||||
11 | improve the criminal justice system as sponsor of
House Bill | ||||||
12 | 4584, making the fee structure for criminal and civil court | ||||||
13 | cases more manageable and
transparent for Illinois residents; | ||||||
14 | and | ||||||
15 | WHEREAS, Rep. Andersson is a champion of bipartisanship and | ||||||
16 | worked diligently across the aisle; his
support of the Equal | ||||||
17 | Rights Amendment is a great example of this, and his advocacy | ||||||
18 | has been integral in
moving the initiative forward to secure | ||||||
19 | equality for all women; and | ||||||
20 | WHEREAS, Rep. Andersson led the bipartisan effort to pass a | ||||||
21 | balanced State budget after 734 days of
impasse; the |

1 | agreed-upon, timely budget came together through good honest | ||||||
2 | negotiations across party
lines; and | ||||||
3 | WHEREAS, Rep. Andersson has long supported historic | ||||||
4 | preservation and proudly served as the Co-Chair
of the Illinois | ||||||
5 | Historic Preservation Caucus; in 2018, he was part of a | ||||||
6 | bipartisan effort to
create a new Illinois Historic | ||||||
7 | Preservation Tax Credit to improve Illinois communities while | ||||||
8 | retaining the
culture and history of the State; his efforts for | ||||||
9 | historic preservation culminated in being named
Landmarks | ||||||
10 | Illinois 2018 Legislator of the Year; and | ||||||
11 | WHEREAS, Rep. Andersson is a supporter of the environment; | ||||||
12 | he has been recognized annually by the Illinois
Environmental | ||||||
13 | Council for his commitment to environmental issues; he has also | ||||||
14 | been a proponent of clean energy and held community forums to | ||||||
15 | discuss the issue with constituents and
interest groups; and | ||||||
16 | WHEREAS, Rep. Andersson created Gold Star Family Day in | ||||||
17 | Illinois through House Bill 4389 in the 99th
General Assembly; | ||||||
18 | this day serves as a day to honor and commemorate the entire | ||||||
19 | families of the men and women
who gave their lives while | ||||||
20 | serving their country; an important day, this legislation gives | ||||||
21 | military families the honor and
recognition they truly deserve | ||||||
22 | in Illinois and across the country; and |

1 | WHEREAS, Rep. Andersson served as the voice of the caucus | ||||||
2 | in his position as floor leader during the 100th
General | ||||||
3 | Assembly and proudly led meaningful debates in the House of | ||||||
4 | Representatives; and | ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, Rep. Andersson was recognized by various | ||||||
6 | organizations with awards for his work in the
House of | ||||||
7 | Representatives, such as the Purple Tie Award for | ||||||
8 | Bi-Partisanship in 2018 by the Metro West
Council of | ||||||
9 | Government, the Illinois Association of School Social Workers | ||||||
10 | Legislator of the Year, the Illinois Pork
Producers Legislator | ||||||
11 | of the Year, the American Institute of Architects-Illinois | ||||||
12 | Legislator of the Year, and
the Illinois Association of Park | ||||||
13 | Districts Legislator of the Year; and
| ||||||
14 | WHEREAS, Rep. Andersson is dedicated to serving as the | ||||||
15 | voice of his community; he led meaningful
discussions with his | ||||||
16 | constituent advocacy group, the 65th District Dialogue; he | ||||||
17 | routinely visited local
schools through the Principal for the | ||||||
18 | Day Program; his annual summer reading program has been wildly
| ||||||
19 | popular among local students every year, and he happily | ||||||
20 | welcomed countless Pages
for the Day and school groups in | ||||||
21 | Springfield; and
| ||||||
22 | WHEREAS, Rep. Andersson has shown a great commitment to | ||||||
23 | improving Illinois, through his advocacy for
effective |

1 | government reform and his compassion in serving his | ||||||
2 | constituents throughout his time in
the House of | ||||||
3 | Representatives; therefore, be it

4 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE | ||||||
5 | HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we | ||||||
6 | congratulate State Rep. Steven Andersson on his retirement and | ||||||
7 | recognize his years of service to the State of Illinois, and we | ||||||
8 | wish him the best in all his future endeavors; and be it | ||||||
