|
2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of |
3 | | Representatives wish to recognize Army Specialist Marcus Moore |
4 | | for his service; and
|
5 | | WHEREAS, Specialist Moore joined the United States Army in |
6 | | 2006; after nearly a decade of service, he was honorably |
7 | | discharged in 2014 and is considered a hero; and
|
8 | | WHEREAS, While serving in combat duty in Iraq, Specialist |
9 | | Moore was severely injured when his unit was ambushed; his |
10 | | Humvee struck an IED, and then enemy insurgents opened fire; he |
11 | | and his team hid behind his truck for cover, but his back and |
12 | | ankle were badly injured from the blast; he was airlifted to |
13 | | Germany, where he spent three months in recovery; his |
14 | | experiences in Iraq have left him with severe PTSD; and
|
15 | | WHEREAS, For his service to his country, Specialist Moore |
16 | | has been awarded the National Defense Service Medal, the Global |
17 | | War on Terrorism Service Medal, the Iraq Campaign Medal with |
18 | | Campaign Star, the Army Service Ribbon, the Overseas Service |
19 | | Ribbon, and the Armed Forces Reserve Medal; he and his family |
20 | | are also receiving a home in Steger from the nonprofit |
21 | | organization, Building Homes for Heroes; and

1 | | WHEREAS, Building Homes for Heroes is strongly committed to |
2 | | rebuilding lives and supporting the brave men and women who |
3 | | were injured while serving the country during the wars in Iraq |
4 | | or Afghanistan; since 2006, the organization has been at the |
5 | | forefront of making a significant difference by building or |
6 | | modifying homes and gifting them, mortgage free, to veterans |
7 | | and their families; these homes not only help to remove the |
8 | | family's financial burden, but they also help to restore the |
9 | | individual's freedom and enable the veteran to lead a more |
10 | | independent and productive civilian life; and
|
11 | | WHEREAS, The United States Army has guarded our freedom and |
12 | | has played a role in making families successful and helping |
13 | | communities thrive, including neighborhood organizations, |
14 | | businesses, nonprofit agencies, policymakers, and, of course, |
15 | | individuals and families themselves; it is an honor to support |
16 | | the men and women who have loyally and courageously served our |
17 | | country; therefore, be it

18 | | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE |
19 | | HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we |
20 | | recognize Army Specialist Marcus Moore for his service, and we |
21 | | congratulate him on receiving a home from Building Homes for |
22 | | Heroes; and be it further
