HOUSE RESOLUTION

  
 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of 
3Representatives are pleased to congratulate Dr. David Asbery on 
4receiving the 2018 Rural Physician of Excellence Award from the 
5Illinois Rural Health Association; and
  
 
6    WHEREAS, One of the biggest healthcare challenges across 
7our nation is the shortage of physicians who practice in rural 
8settings, with the lack of obstetricians putting women at an 
9especially high risk; and
  
 
10    WHEREAS, Before pursuing a career in medicine, Dr. Asbery 
11served our nation as a United States Marine from 1987 to 1989; 
12and
  
 
13    WHEREAS, Dr. Asbery graduated from the University of 
14Kentucky College of Medicine in 1996; and
 
15    WHEREAS, Dr. Asbery completed his residency in Obstetrics 
16and Gynecology in 2000 at the New Hanover Regional Medical 
17Center in Wilmington, North Carolina; and
 
18    WHEREAS, Dr. Asbery was board certified by the American 
19College of Obstetrics and Gynecology in 2002; and

1    WHEREAS, Dr. Asbery started practicing in Mt. Vernon in 
22007 with St. Mary's Good Samaritan Medical Group; he  then 
3opened his own practice, Asbery & Associates OB-GYN, LLC in 
42010; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Dr. Asbery has expanded his practice to include 
6two associate physicians, two physician assistants, one 
7advanced practice nurse, two  certified nurse midwives, and 32 
8additional staff members; he has clinics in Centralia, 
9McLeansboro, Mt. Vernon, and Nashville; and
 
10    WHEREAS, Dr. Asbery has filled a tremendous void by his 
11expansion of obstetric care in the area so local women no 
12longer have to travel extensively to seek such care; and
 
13    WHEREAS, Dr. Asbery's highly specialized training as a 
14certified Da Vinci Surgeon ensures his patient are getting 
15state-of-the-art care close to home; and
  
 
16    WHEREAS, Dr. Asbery is also very devoted to his community; 
17specifically, he supports small business development, serves 
18on the Rend Lake Community College Board, and helps with 
19fundraising for local school extracurricular programs; and
  
 
20    WHEREAS, In his "free time", Dr. Asbery practices his 
21aviation skills, flying as well as traveling, with his wife,

1Kathy, and their beloved clan, which includes Kadin, Cullen, 
2Liam, and Elliana; therefore, be it
  
 
3    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE 
4HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we 
5congratulate Dr. David Asbery on receiving the 2018 Rural 
6Physician of Excellence Award, and we commend his selfless 
7service and dedication to his patients and acknowledge  the 
8impact he has made improving healthcare delivery for women and 
9babies in southern Illinois; and be it further
  
 
10    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 
11presented to Dr Asbery as a symbol of our respect and esteem.
